Reb Refoel was the son of Reb Chaim. That made him Reb Lazer Yudel Finkels' grandson. He passed away less than a year ago after suffering from a debilitating disease. He was married to Reb Avrohom Farbstein's daughter.

ReplyDeleteI would put forward to change the hat wearing guys back to multi colors sizes and shapes it's much more "us" than this wide brimmed don looking black hats.
maybe you can have them for high holidays, and official ceremonies, also selected clergyman, but its not the commoners to wear, it makes you clean shaven guys look like you're all hat with no beef..

On Tu BiShvat 5722/1962, Reb Rafael became engaged to the daughter of Harav Avraham Yehudah Farbstein,zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Chevron and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah. The shidduch came about when, by recommendation of his grandfather Harav Finkel, Reb Rafael would deliver a chaburah each week for half a year to Harav Yechezkel Sarna, zt”l. Ultimately, Rav Sarna noted to his daughter, Rebbetzin Farbstein, “Aza Refael nisht dah — such a Raphael is nowhere else to be found.”
ReplyDeleteWhen the Mir yeshivah traveled first to Japan and then to Shanghai, than to Brooklyn NY. When they reached Eretz Yisrael, Rav Rafael was "nine years old". He attended Talmud Torah Yavneh, and later Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi.
Hirshel is out maybe waiting for someone's vort or Levayah c"v to report, I would suggest check in the NYT obituaries section or the engagements section for some hect to report on.
