California Chazerei
I didn't know Rabbi Avrohom Levitansky personally, although I saw him a few times in 770 years ago. I would hear stories about him being the ultimate Shliach, the one who never changed his way of life, and who stayed true to the Rebbe till his very last day. I don't doubt that for a second. What I don't understand is the "revenge" that some of his family and friends - that are so worried about the image that Lubavitch portrays in the world - are dishing out on his behalf onto Shlomo Cunin and family. Of course the who-- (sorry about that, I couldn't think of a better term) here is Tzemach Atlas, who although he knows zero about the man or about his history still finds it necessary to make his blog the harbinger of more hate against people in general and Lubavitch in particular. Yes, I know all about me and my Agudah-bashing, but those are fair game, and they don't attack anybody's family personally, or delve into their business practices, especially after a death like that.
I would therefore make the following assumption: If you respect Reb Avremel, and you hold him in such high esteem, and you realize that it's still within the Shivah period, then realize that he'd want you to stop writing on his behalf. Especially since the ultimate victim here is not Shlomo Cunin, but the Meshaleach, and the preceding six generations of Rebbes. I know that many of you care very little about Lubavitch and the Rebbe, and it's all about your petty little Shtelles in California, so I don't address you, simply because you'll make it about Kotlarsky and Krinsky again. Somehow they always get the blame. But for those of you who're worried about guys with banged up hats waving yellow flags, and children with writing on their Yarmulkes, I speak to you. What you're doing here is no better, and is actually much worse, because there's no excuse for Chilul Hashem like that.
While on the subject; Can somebody tell me if the Niftar ever learned in Telzer Yeshivah?
Is that better, DD?
correction. There is not a single word on this subject and many comments that is written by me. It is written by Shluchim in CA, so why why you assume that you in BP know better?
ReplyDeleteYou're right that you didn't write anything yourself, but you did comment-mine the comments by DD, someone who should know better than to write like that. Hence the blame.
ReplyDeleteThat's Telshe not Telzer... but you knew that
ReplyDeleteTelz is spelled Telshe. Is Telzer also spelled Teslsher? I guess so. I just was making it more legible.
ReplyDeleteTzig
ReplyDeleteLevitansky is a family with Lutvacks and Lubavitch. There is a Levitansky in Lakewood son of ,I think, menahel of Telz Chicago mesivta?
Anybody who knows R'Levitansky's bio should post, please
http://www.chabad.info/index.php?url=article_en&id=9122
ReplyDeletehere's a nice article, even has some pics with that beautiful real smile (complete with squinty eyes)that said "I love you because you are a Jew" like only R' Avremel could give.
ps- please people don't fight, let's show some love in honor of this great man, true chosid and lover of every Jew no matter who.
Hershel.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that many of the comments are Stupid and out of control. I also agree that we should focus on the good especially so soon after.
Nonetheless don’t be dishonest with yourself A) Many of your posts incite comments far more disrespectful. B) You could have written a nice post without mentioning Mentalblog. C). Regardless, “Levitansky's Revenge" is an inappropriate heaader, no blood with a driping knife?
I’ll see you by the L’chaim?
HT,
ReplyDeletethank you for a comment well said, i particularly enjoyed [and agree] with the second [half of the second] part.
what can you do though - א קאפ קען מען נישט ארויפשטעלען...
In lashon keydesh eysiyes Telz is spelled with a zayin at the end , the kasha is how was the zayin pronounced in Kurland (Northern Lithuania).
ReplyDeletefrom shortly after his bar mitzvah he learned in 770 already, so i would assume he didn't learn in telz
ReplyDeleteHow old was he?
ReplyDeleteDD
ReplyDeleteI know very little about California/L.A. Lubavitch other than they announce the SuperBowl party in shul, and that half of the guys in Beis Levi Yitzhok are ex-shluchim.
I can say that I do very little personal stories, meaning I don't criticize people for what they do in their personal lives. I stay away from all the abuse stories that fill the blogosphere, even if they did involve Yeshivos that I don't care for.
I'm not sure I understand the dripping blood analogy, and why I shouldn't have mentionmed mentalblog.
I think he was 67 years old.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the spelling issue, I'm generally an advocate of the "who-cares-as-long-as-people-get-the-idea" approach. I can understand picking on Hershel being that he is generally makpid on spelling (even punctuation). In the case of a transliteration however (with the exception of those that have been "adopted" into English like "ad infinitum") there is no real "proper" spelling, veda"l...
Mendel, the age posted on COL etc. was wrong, he was a few months short of 64.
ReplyDeleteI think anyone who cares for the honor of the niftar will stop all of the mud slinging at once . . . I remember the pain that he expressed over pashkvilem in LA, and with out a shadow of a doubt can say that he would not like what's going on here.
I know of the dirt (at least in part) . . . but this must end!
Hershel, why'd you write the post? Was it for T.A? I never saw him change a post because of you. Me? You already told me privately and I agreed.
ReplyDeleteI imagine you have readers that T.A doesn’t and only know of his post because of yours.
If you had sincere intentions and didn’t write the post to gain readership or because its exciting and political, then why title it ”LEVITANSKEY REVENGE” a title fit for a horror movie. stay focused on the good.
Regardless the family wants all the negativity down, so please at least change the title.
metoch shelo lishma bo lishma, I’m still a fan
I know very little about California/L.A. Lubavitch other than they announce the SuperBowl party in shul,
ReplyDeleteThis is not typical. sounds like a slander.
and that half of the guys in Beis Levi Yitzhok are ex-shluchim.
I dont remember anything like this from ten years ago....
Vi kumt aza shprach tzu a Chassidisher Bocher?! horror movies.
ReplyDeleteI changed it, yet I still don't know what you're so upset about. You're the one who started all this Cunin-bashing.
I'll be at the Lechaim tonight, iy"h.
ReplyDeleteN
ReplyDeletemaybe it was slander. I guess I don't even know that much.
I was wrong! but i know it.
ReplyDeletethanks for the correction, mottel
ReplyDeleteps - relieving to see the tone on this blog is friendlier and more befiting the memory and wishes of the late chosid than on the TA blog.
Maybe it's me but I see what happened in S Monica, and Cunin general, as a manifestation of Meshichism. VeDal.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, anonymous, when I was a kid living in LA Cunin was doing exactly what he is now, and it was much the same type of situation - same game different names. It was 1988 and back...I don't recall there being meshichism at that time...
ReplyDeleteNot that the whole lubab machlokes doesn't give them more ammo. But if not that, I imagine they would find different banners to stand behind and "fight for" IMHO.
sheichet, that is correct, and the anonymous has it backwards. Meshichism is a manifestation of the inhuman attitudes that existed before.
ReplyDeleteHMMM and sheichet
ReplyDeleteall I meant was that in this case, Cunin sticking in his kids, all of the SIL are Meshichisten. I would figure that's why they agreed to going in there and causing trouble.
Like I said that all predates the particular machlokes. Cunin has been sticking his kids in long before that and they never had any problem agreeing to cause trouble before that. It just so happens that the Meshichistical (heh heh) machlokes is the most convenient excuse at the current time.
ReplyDeletebtw, this applies not only to the LA scenario but to most of the power struggles in Lubavitch (e.g. the Rebbe's library) as well as in other places. The fights are either for personal gain, because of personal grudges or in some cases just lishmoh. As a justification to the velt (and maybe to their own tormented consciences as well) the most convenient idealistic banner available is selected. Even for the selfish it always looks and feels better to be fighting a "holy war" than a personal one.
I definitely credit you for trying to look at even Cunin with the right eye, but it's just not realistic.
Wars don't make people, people make wars.
Cliches need to be true as well. People make wars, and wars make people.
ReplyDeleteI stand by what I said, wars DON'T make people, my friend...wars merely make animals out of the rotten shells of what once WERE people.
