I.I.I. Domb

Domb is a Talmid of Chachmei Lublin and a Strikover Chossid, which left him all alone after WW2 as far as having a Rebbe and general direction, although it may be the Strikover influence that's behind him after all. The Satmar Rov's jabs at the Agudah were nothing compared to Mr. Domb's, as he had nothing to lose from attacking them head on. His articles in HaChomah were fodder for all Kanoyim, and were read with great zest. His heavy Germanic accent only adds to that, and makes his comments even more biting. A sharp, cynical man, yet seemingly kind and charming, so unlike the wannabe NK fools of today who he so despises. Before they came unto the scene Yerachmiel Yisroel Yitzchok Domb was persona non-grata as far as the Agudah and mainstream Charedim, as well as the Religius Zionists were concerned.

It seems like the Neturei Karta is open to all, not just residents of the Karta - Yerushalayim. This makes no sense. After all, if one lives in London, where Domb lives, why then is he considered one of the guardians of the Holy City? Can I - a resident of no city - also join? Or is he an honorary member?

  1. Sometimes I think that our issue is not that we argue too sharply here online, I think we argue too softly. These great people debated in much sharper terms, perhaps because the issues were clearer to them and so too their stances.

btw, like my shoutout from faruq on reshimu?

  8. There was a Strikover rebbe after the War (there are 2 now, vie anderes a rael chassiduth needs 2 rebbes or the cynic said no rebbe at all)) who was a great lamdan and a close disciple of the Brisker rav in lernen but not in public policy as he was an Agudist.
Domb is cute and ahs many enemies in the NK. I recall him saying that Rav Reines the founder of the Mizrachi was greater than todays moetzes and Bes din of the Eda. Finally a honest man ...

You made me rethink what I wrote. I know there's a Strikover Rebbe now, a grandson of the previous one, who was a Brisker Talmid and close to many of the Gedolei Roshei Yeshivah.
I'm unsure now if he's a Strikover after all. The Rebbe I'm referring to was a Kotzker Eynikel who perished either during or immediately before WW2. I believe he was a Morgenstern too.

  10. Tzig, I sent a comment yesterday but somehow it doesn't show - comment moderation? In short and more moderate:Domb is one of the most despicable individuals I've ever met.BTW, he was also a talmid at TT in Otwock and subsequently kicked out.I don't know if before or after Lublin. The man has no respect for anyone.Usually he refers to the Rebbe as "Manny boy".His "tzidkus" can be seen in the fact, that he chose to make his living from manufacturing "sacramental" jewellery like crucifixes etc. It's a pity that this outspoken Ssoine Ysroel gets a full hour for his rantings on your blog.Hamisabek im hamenuval and all that...

  11. Domb made much trouble in Chachmei Lublin as I heard from another talmid.

This is a good example of what the Satmerer Rov (was it him?) used to say אחרי מות קדושים. Domb was considered a nut by everyone besides NK, in his heyday.

  12. I believe he's still alive, no? At least I haven't heard anything about him dying.

He was considered the most despicable person till Moshe Ber Beck and Company came along. Then again, there was always Moshe Hirsch, a Yankee Lakewood boy gone bad.

To his credit he never advocated kissing guys like Arafat and Ahmedinejad, and he doesn't speak against Gedolim in this interview. He sticks to the point.

  13. No Reb Hirshel he is a Strikover chassid, before the war , he claims to have been a follower of the zaddik Reb Shimmele Zelichover (Hurevitz a gor geheibine Yid of the type we no longer can even imagine.)of Lublin who was also connected with Otwock TTL.
I think Domb is still mispaked , he is among the living.

  14. He is against the arafat kumzitzes that Beck and co. are promoting, he considers himself a disciple of Reb Shimon Zelichover Z"L If I am not mistaking Reb Shimon also served as mashgiach in TTL in Poland.Domb printed his sefer Nharie Aish, propagating a letter in their against Reb Mayer Shapiro Z"L . He reminds me of Al Sharpton professional demagogue and sharp tung hate monger

  15. He IS the most despicable, because he is very intelligent, while Beck, Friedmann & Co are just morons that woulsd do anything for a few farkackte $$. I have to give Domb credit for not being for sale. Imagine how many positive things he could have achieved with his acumen and knowledge.

  17. Strikov was not a Kotzk group it was a Vorki group that stems from Alexander. (This rabbi is apparently named after the Yismach Yisrael who was Yerachmiel Yisroel Yitzchak Danziger). There is a Strikover rebbe today in Israel he comes to USA now and then.
