Mashinka is the name of the niggun. The story goes that R. sholom charatonow and another chossid (anyone remember?) both ordered a machine which they needed back in russia for business. in the end only one machine arrived and they went to a a rav to decide who should get it - the rav decided that the other chosid should get it. R. Sholom was a little down as a result and composed the nigun machinka 'the machine'.
while we are on the topic one of the classic niggunim of R shalom - Voloch Vkareiv pizurainu (tape 38 no. 9 or 3809 on the CD) could you post it?
