Who put this out? I was shocked when I was in a Chabad shul and people were talking during kaddish as if they were oblivious. When did this start happening? Is it improper chinuch of baalei t'shuva?
1. Oy! so this 'not having a moreh derech' and the self-education started already then?!? 2. both letters are about the chitzonius not being me'orer the pnimius. hmm, that was supposed to work for chasidim.
It's a problem not just in Chabad. Chitzoniyus has overtaken Pnimiyus.
I dare say the Sefardim got it right here. They didn't have uniforms or even wear hats in many cases. They did have pnimiyus. We have inherently cajoled them into borsalinos, white shirts and black ties.
If I remember correctly, their Poskim (including the Mechaber) held that having your Tzitzis out was Yuharo (I wear my Tzitzis out, so I'm not defending myself).
Notice how Sefardim have a special levush of a talmid chacham ... we've seen people like R' Ovadya wear this on occasions, and the Baba Sali had his. What we didn't see with the Sefardim is the Hamon Am dressing up in the Levush of the Chacham.
Yes, I know that some Rebbe's wear a different colour Kapoteh/Shtreimel whatever, but in the main, we Ashkenazim, and I mean Charedi varieties have blurred the boundaries with our Chitzoniyus. We have the Levush and we are the סוס?
I think they were said in Riga. the Matzav Hachasidus was very weak their. They are good quotes for a certain time and age. but can not be applied for our gen.
It cannot be applied to dor shevii of hasidei habad because after the petirah of the Rebbe ZTL the beards keep on getting shorter, vilde meshichizm bordering on h.alachic anarchy keeps on getting stronger, yiddish, the language of the Rebbe ztl and his Father in law is hardly ever spoken, and the talk of the town in chodesh elul was who would win the softball championship. Such gehoibene yidn do not need to listen to the freierdiker Rebbe Ztl
I think the Rebbe decided what was suitable for our times and what not. There are plenty of letters that the Rebbe said not to publish, these are not amongst them
