While they took a picture of a wrapped magazine - complete with plastic glare, we go all out and get only for our readers, no matter if some of you are a bunch of @#$%^&^%$#@##$s and worse. The story about RBB is classic, a true portrait of Ahavas Yisroel, besides for all the other ma'alos. It's ironic how RBB sent a talmid who he cared for so much to Lubavitch, despite his "veite kuk" what Lubavitch would become...
Left: Reb Moshe Chaim Sapochinski, Right: Yehoshua, (or Shaye) Leibovich, HY"D, RBB's eynikel, Center: Maran Reb Boruch Ber Zatzal of Kamenetz Litovsk. It seems like young Shaye had fun that day in the woods of Druskenik, where RBB was on datche, smiling for photographers all afternoon. He was also mistaken for Reb Schneur K in the Reb Shimon SHkop biography. Moshe Chaim was not identified in any of these pictures until this week, AFAIK. Ah! how times have changed!
Today, In Montre'al, PQ. You could tell that face a million years later...
You could see he never lost that sharp Yeshivishe look from the 30s. Good suit. Hat on a slight tilt. Hair just so. (I have more pics to prove that.) Gadlus Ho'Odom.

The article preview. You'll need to go out and buy the magazine to see the whole article..
Kamenetzer Yeshiveh K'taneh, 5698, RMC is second from left. Only one bachur'el dares to take a peek and smile, the others never lose focus, while the mashgiach "git a sharfen blik."
I read it, says they never even heard of Lubavitch back then in the yeshivos, so I guess chassidim werent coming in to make Tanya classes or make simches toira more exciting.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics, a yid with hardras panim.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting, enjoyed it immensely.
ReplyDeleteAre Sapochkinsky kids Lubavitch or did he send them litvish?
ReplyDeleteanon 6:59
ReplyDeletehe also mentions that he never heard of RBB, and that his father had never heard of the Kamenetzer Yeshivah!
so what does THAT prove?! huh?!
It's hit and miss with Besser. Sometimes you wanna tear the hair out of your head with his cheesy and corny articles and writeups, and sometimes they're smash hits. This one is the latter.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sruly, you made us all proud.
Sruly Beser is a great writer
ReplyDeleteI loved his book on Rabbi Freifeld
Sapochinsky's shul Nusach Hoari is right near Lubavitch yeshiva but he attracts the more serious element interested in Chabad without the politics.
ReplyDeleteSapo doesnt say yechi and the yeshiva often does.
ReplyDeleteThere is a legend that the RBBL met the Rebbe. Anyone know if its true?
ReplyDeleteThere is a legend that R'BB was named after the Magid.
ReplyDeleteIt was debunked on this blog, though.
Legends....
Lubavitchers are big into legends and babbeh maases, and Chersoner Genizahs
Btw, I ctually think there is a credible story that RBB met the Rebbe.
ReplyDeleteSaw it somewhere
Tzig,
ReplyDeleteYou should have gotten this story for Mishpacha
As one of the few Lubavitchers who has heard of RBB, you would have realized that this is a very interesting article to write
(not for lubavitchers though.they have zero interest in anything non lubavitch)
Yoni
ReplyDeletestop sticking your foot up your mouth. It's painful to watch.
how is it takkeh that "Maran" had such a veite kuk about Lubavitch and not Reb Boruch Ber??
ReplyDeleteOr could it bet that Maran had other "cheshboynes" in mind?
I wonder...
I guess we can debunk that phony story that Kamenecki in MOAG brings regarding RBB and what he said about the FR, right guys?
ReplyDeleteHow a fellow goes from RBB to Lubavitch is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteAnother fellow that went from Kletzk to Lubob was r'avrokom karp from Montreal.Fascinating how a nice talmid chochom bought into the Lubavitcher nonsense
What a turnaround!
ReplyDeleteA year or two ago Mishpacha
was blackmailed by the AntiTzemach for reporting candidly about what some rabonim thought of Lubavitch.
TODAY, MAJOR KISS UP
???
I actually heard from Rabbi Sapochinsky the story of the Rebbe's meeting with RBB which differs from the commonly told version. I posted it in the comments sometime ago but it seems Tzig does not allow for them to be searched?
ReplyDeletebut it seems Tzig does not allow for them to be searched?
ReplyDeleteI don't allow?!

ReplyDeleteblackmailed? is that so?
care to back up your libelous statements?
Unlike the more heimisheh elements of Chabad, when one sees what goes in in their kiruv network, one notices a strong need to compromise on values. No, I am not refering to a shlichus outpost whose main objective is to hit-up affluent businessmen, with the Israeli backbacker only incidiental. I mean look at influantional individuals in Chabad who have no problem officiating at weddings where they can barely find a kosher witness - they will probably never get a get and there is not a small chance she will be mizaneh - and they sit there in front of places full of tarfus while they sign the kesubah. Of course, the same "misader kidushin" will only eat Lubavitcher shichitah; they focus on chumros and miss the forest for the trees.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the "kiruv" work entails slapping the michelal shabbos on the back when he drives to shul with his wife wearing pants. The Rebbe's shliach invokes enough Jewish pride for the poor chap to write a fat cheque to asuperfulous large Lubavitch building, and can assauge his conscience. He now no longer doesn't have to feel guily being an averyan because the "shliach" made him feel good, had a couple of shots with him and convinced him that his donation will save his soul.
Contrast the lack of standards, the unabashed chanifah, with a Kollel that goes out of town and revolutionizes a shtut. The locals realize that the yungeleit stand for something and they mean something. A Kolel doesn't consider its "successes" by how many people ate latkas and baked chumatz for pesach, but by how many people made actual lifestyle changes. Contrast to Chabad, where they don't, even implicetly, "muhn" change - let alone outer change - and they will officiate at your wedding no matter what - as long as they get to eat their pas yisroel. I am sure the Rebbe is not proud about this.
Yurid
ReplyDeleteThat wins asinine comment of the day!
I'm sure Tzig will agree to that.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Mishpachah has good friends and our making many people happy - testimony of it's kosherness

mr. rationalist
ReplyDeletelook at the other organization featured on that same Mispacha cover...
are they too now treyf?
Huh? the point is that the apikorsim love the Mishpachah mag and how its making "inroads" and its "liberelness". That's very telling of where they are holding.
ReplyDeletehuh nothing. I get that.
ReplyDeleteso my question is: Is the fact that they portray Lubavitch in a positive light more proof to the Apikorsim having goo dreason to like Mishpacha?
what about the feature on the "Vaad L'hatzolas etc." is that too proof?
This has nothing to do with Mishpacha's innacurate "portrayal" of Chabad. It is about NS getting happy over it. This has nothing to do with Chabad.
ReplyDelete(Perhaps it is a "siman" that the same reason they are pro-chabad, they are also apikorus-friendly. I don't know.)
I lost you there, Mr. Rationalist
ReplyDeleteplease explain.
Reb Yoel Kahan's response to "Yurid"
ReplyDeletelet's see if he'll bother to read it.
Do you know if R'Sapo was interviewed for the book written on R'BB?
ReplyDeleteI think you have the book, maybe u can check

Reb Yoni
As another "one of the few Lubavitchers who has heard of RBB"
I still defer to your knowledge of various gedolim of yesteryear. Can you please enlighten me as to the history of the following individuals (That is if you heard about them).Rav Sadia Ashkinazi, Rav Yitzchok Isaac Chaver, Rav Hillel Rivlin,(no, not the one who is speaker of the Knesset)Of Shklov and Rav Menachem Mendel (could it possibly be that that he had some relationship with Lubavitch or perhaps Kotzk?) of Shklov.
I have some more individuals I need to know about but far be from me to detract you excessively from your horivania in limud Hataireh.
I am waiting for your reply with great anticipation.
Arthur,
ReplyDeleteWho helped you out with these names?
Your nephew from Ner Yisroel who Rabbi Ruderman was mesader kidushin for?
There is a credible source for the story with RBB and the Rebbe.
ReplyDeleteI believe JEM published it - related by a talmid of R' Shaya Shimonovitz (IIRC).
Yoni
ReplyDeleteNopes.Believe or not we Lubabs know a little more then you attribute to us.
Did you get me that info on those names?
PS Yoni
ReplyDeleteI'll give you a hint. They definitely were not Hasidim of any flavor. If you're still having trouble with their bios just get back to me and I'll help you out.

ReplyDeleteI see you learned well at "Givat Hayeshiva", eh?
So you are into Talmidei HaGroh?
Seriously now,
How about a guest post about your time by R'Kahaneman?
I would find it very interesting.
Why did you go there, btw.Uncle, sent you?
"I see you learned well at "Givat Hayeshiva", eh?
ReplyDeleteSo you are into Talmidei HaGroh?"
Yoni
I see that you finally got to your second grade rebbe to help you out.Alright I'm sorry, your third grade Rebbe.
I remember coming across the sefer Afikai Yam al aggodos hashas by rav Yitzchok Isaac Chaver, a Talmid of the Groh, back in the day.
As to the other Talmidai HaGroh, this Lubab poier ,who really should have no knowledge of Reb BBL and certainly not talmidei HaGroh and needs "his nephew in Baltimore" to help him out, learned about these individuals as a mesivta bochur while learning at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva at Bedford and Dean.
My years at Ponoviezh were not really that memorable but if the blog owner insists maybe I'll write something up and no my uncle did not send me.

ReplyDelete"how is it takkeh that "Maran" had such a veite kuk about Lubavitch"
how are you convinced that Maran had a Viter Kuk?
after 15 years of Meshichisim it is still not a Kat Shatz, it is nowhere said that it is against any of the 13 principles, you can argue that it is a Meshugaz, but Meshuge does not make you a Menasech Yayin? as he ranted in his infamous rant in Binyanie Heuma? Their is no question that after all his great "geonois" in Torah, he still has to ask Mechila by a Aida Kedoishe Beyisroel.
Now lets analyze the Viete Kook Of his in house Litvisher nemesis Reb Dov Landau of Salabodka, that his politicization of the yeshiva world will only bring Heres Vechoirben in the ranks of the yeshiva world.Who's hand has the blood of ruining the mother of all yeshivahs Ponovizh? and now Gerodna? his Newspaper is a even nogef for the Benai torah? His hasgocha is not eaten by none, it is almost obsolete, with out the random oxygen provided by the Elieshev faction.

ReplyDelete"How a fellow goes from RBB to Lubavitch is beyond me"
did you ever think that he looked upon him as a good erlicher magid shiur, but has noting to offer for his neshoma? A Shtikel Tanya or likutie torah provided him a little light for his neshoma?
Did you ever think that we the Jewish people have a neshoma that needs spirutal food?
Yurid,
ReplyDelete"I am not refering to a shlichus outpost whose main objective is to hit-up affluent businessmen, with the Israeli backbacker only incidiental."
is this a fact did you see in his heart that his is only goal, or Chabadbashing is such a mitzva that we can overlook the facts?

is this not the Job of a Rov to officiate at a wedding and not thing that this people will do s and so? was this not the job of all rabonim big Cities as Warsaw? Lodz? Vilna? or the rabonim of the holy rabinut(where the posek hador had his offical career) you are very dramatic in your demagoguery, but the facts are that is the job if you serve Klal Yisroel as a whole.

ReplyDeleteThat last week was a very hard week for Snags and Chabad haters, the Charadie Media out of the 2 Rags Yid &Blatt and their israeli counterpart Hebrew Yated gave wall to wall coverage for the Kinnus hashluchim with a Kidush Shem Lubavich which is a kidush hashem since Lubavich brings the True Dvar Hashem to every Jewish soul on this World outside of Rodney St And Lakewood(sorry if I forgot some other hate bastion Vehashem Hatov Yechaper). This created the hatefest that every somebody that can write a sentence cameout of their woodworks.
A Guter Voch.

Your comment reeks of phony Lubavitcher "Ahavas yisroel" i.e loving yourself andanybody agreeing with andbeing maekel malchus.
a
I read the Mishpacha article. It was cute.
ReplyDeleteReaching the conclusion that Hirshel wants, as if R'BB had a position on Chabad is laughable.
Young R'Sapochinsky came to Vilna as a refugee in the time of war and needed a yeshiva badly.R'BB sent him and his two grandkids to The Lubavitcher yeshiva which was available and not very different from other yeshivos.
That was before the craziness of Lubavitch reared it's head.
Interesting that R'BB has some eyniklach who joined Lubavitch.Could be that the stay of their grandfather in a Lubavitcher yeshiva left him with a positive approach.
One of the eyniklach, was the "source" for an outrageous claim that R'BB was actually named after the Mezritcher, which was fodder for Hirshel to attack a beautiful book written lately on R'BB for "censoring" this fact.
Off course that story is pure unadulterated nonsense, the stuff that is common in Lubavitcher hagiographies.Hirshel knows it, but off course that did not stop him.
He is a man on a (kool-aid)mission!A mission of love (with quite a bit of hate, thrown in for good measure and maybe a nice bonus)
What do Rabbi Sapochinskies sons do?
ReplyDeleteAnother Lubavitcher joins the Secular in their hate and disdain for Torah learners.

Lubavitchers we all know what you REALLY believe, kudos to the few ones who are honest about it.
Hirshel, in this regard you are also honest. You are a "hater", but you don't hide it at least. From guys like you,I know to watch out
Uh-oh,
ReplyDeleteIn a(public) first I realize that Hirshel doesn't like this fellow Lubavitcher too much.

Someone read the article and commented that "it makes it seem that Reb Burech Ber made him Lubavitch". Is that correct?
