What COL missed (this week's Mishpacha)

While they took a picture of a wrapped magazine - complete with plastic glare, we go all out and get only for our readers, no matter if some of you are a bunch of @#$%^&^%$#@##$s and worse. The story about RBB is classic, a true portrait of Ahavas Yisroel, besides for all the other ma'alos. It's ironic how RBB sent a talmid who he cared for so much to Lubavitch, despite his "veite kuk" what Lubavitch would become...

Left: Reb Moshe Chaim Sapochinski, Right: Yehoshua, (or Shaye) Leibovich, HY"D, RBB's eynikel, Center: Maran Reb Boruch Ber Zatzal of Kamenetz Litovsk. It seems like young Shaye had fun that day in the woods of Druskenik, where RBB was on datche, smiling for photographers all afternoon. He was also mistaken for Reb Schneur K in the Reb Shimon SHkop biography. Moshe Chaim was not identified in any of these pictures until this week, AFAIK. Ah! how times have changed!

Today, In Montre'al, PQ. You could tell that face a million years later...

You could see he never lost that sharp Yeshivishe look from the 30s. Good suit. Hat on a slight tilt. Hair just so. (I have more pics to prove that.) Gadlus Ho'Odom.

The article preview. You'll need to go out and buy the magazine to see the whole article..

Kamenetzer Yeshiveh K'taneh, 5698, RMC is second from left. Only one bachur'el dares to take a peek and smile, the others never lose focus, while the mashgiach "git a sharfen blik."

  1. I read it, says they never even heard of Lubavitch back then in the yeshivos, so I guess chassidim werent coming in to make Tanya classes or make simches toira more exciting.

he also mentions that he never heard of RBB, and that his father had never heard of the Kamenetzer Yeshivah!

so what does THAT prove?! huh?!

  6. It's hit and miss with Besser. Sometimes you wanna tear the hair out of your head with his cheesy and corny articles and writeups, and sometimes they're smash hits. This one is the latter.

Thanks, Sruly, you made us all proud.

  11. There is a legend that R'BB was named after the Magid.
It was debunked on this blog, though.
    Legends....

  12. Btw, I ctually think there is a credible story that RBB met the Rebbe.
    Saw it somewhere

  13. Tzig,
You should have gotten this story for Mishpacha
As one of the few Lubavitchers who has heard of RBB, you would have realized that this is a very interesting article to write

  15. how is it takkeh that "Maran" had such a veite kuk about Lubavitch and not Reb Boruch Ber??

Or could it bet that Maran had other "cheshboynes" in mind?

  22. Unlike the more heimisheh elements of Chabad, when one sees what goes in in their kiruv network, one notices a strong need to compromise on values. No, I am not refering to a shlichus outpost whose main objective is to hit-up affluent businessmen, with the Israeli backbacker only incidiental. I mean look at influantional individuals in Chabad who have no problem officiating at weddings where they can barely find a kosher witness - they will probably never get a get and there is not a small chance she will be mizaneh - and they sit there in front of places full of tarfus while they sign the kesubah. Of course, the same "misader kidushin" will only eat Lubavitcher shichitah; they focus on chumros and miss the forest for the trees.
A lot of the "kiruv" work entails slapping the michelal shabbos on the back when he drives to shul with his wife wearing pants. The Rebbe's shliach invokes enough Jewish pride for the poor chap to write a fat cheque to asuperfulous large Lubavitch building, and can assauge his conscience. He now no longer doesn't have to feel guily being an averyan because the "shliach" made him feel good, had a couple of shots with him and convinced him that his donation will save his soul.
Contrast the lack of standards, the unabashed chanifah, with a Kollel that goes out of town and revolutionizes a shtut. The locals realize that the yungeleit stand for something and they mean something. A Kolel doesn't consider its "successes" by how many people ate latkas and baked chumatz for pesach, but by how many people made actual lifestyle changes. Contrast to Chabad, where they don't, even implicetly, "muhn" change - let alone outer change - and they will officiate at your wedding no matter what - as long as they get to eat their pas yisroel. I am sure the Rebbe is not proud about this.

look at the other organization featured on that same Mispacha cover...

    are they too now treyf?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Huh? the point is that the apikorsim love the Mishpachah mag and how its making "inroads" and its "liberelness". That's very telling of where they are holding.

    ReplyDelete
  27. huh nothing. I get that.
so my question is: Is the fact that they portray Lubavitch in a positive light more proof to the Apikorsim having goo dreason to like Mishpacha?

what about the feature on the "Vaad L'hatzolas etc." is that too proof?

    ReplyDelete
  28. This has nothing to do with Mishpacha's innacurate "portrayal" of Chabad. It is about NS getting happy over it. This has nothing to do with Chabad.

(Perhaps it is a "siman" that the same reason they are pro-chabad, they are also apikorus-friendly. I don't know.)

I remember coming across the sefer Afikai Yam al aggodos hashas by rav Yitzchok Isaac Chaver, a Talmid of the Groh, back in the day.
As to the other Talmidai HaGroh, this Lubab poier ,who really should have no knowledge of Reb BBL and certainly not talmidei HaGroh and needs "his nephew in Baltimore" to help him out, learned about these individuals as a mesivta bochur while learning at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva at Bedford and Dean.

how are you convinced that Maran had a Viter Kuk?
after 15 years of Meshichisim it is still not a Kat Shatz, it is nowhere said that it is against any of the 13 principles, you can argue that it is a Meshugaz, but Meshuge does not make you a Menasech Yayin? as he ranted in his infamous rant in Binyanie Heuma? Their is no question that after all his great "geonois" in Torah, he still has to ask Mechila by a Aida Kedoishe Beyisroel.
Now lets analyze the Viete Kook Of his in house Litvisher nemesis Reb Dov Landau of Salabodka, that his politicization of the yeshiva world will only bring Heres Vechoirben in the ranks of the yeshiva world.Who's hand has the blood of ruining the mother of all yeshivahs Ponovizh? and now Gerodna? his Newspaper is a even nogef for the Benai torah? His hasgocha is not eaten by none, it is almost obsolete, with out the random oxygen provided by the Elieshev faction.

  47. I read the Mishpacha article. It was cute.
Reaching the conclusion that Hirshel wants, as if R'BB had a position on Chabad is laughable.
Young R'Sapochinsky came to Vilna as a refugee in the time of war and needed a yeshiva badly.R'BB sent him and his two grandkids to The Lubavitcher yeshiva which was available and not very different from other yeshivos.
That was before the craziness of Lubavitch reared it's head.
Interesting that R'BB has some eyniklach who joined Lubavitch.Could be that the stay of their grandfather in a Lubavitcher yeshiva left him with a positive approach.
One of the eyniklach, was the "source" for an outrageous claim that R'BB was actually named after the Mezritcher, which was fodder for Hirshel to attack a beautiful book written lately on R'BB for "censoring" this fact.
Off course that story is pure unadulterated nonsense, the stuff that is common in Lubavitcher hagiographies.Hirshel knows it, but off course that did not stop him.
He is a man on a (kool-aid)mission!A mission of love (with quite a bit of hate, thrown in for good measure and maybe a nice bonus)
