Cleaning the Beis HaMikdosh, er, the Belzer Shul, for Pesach

  1. It's called obsessive-compulsive Belz disorder. The textbooks say it strikes 3 out of 4 Lubavitcher bloggers when they run out of interesting topics. The chandelier variety of this illness is harder to treat and often requires extended bed rest and medication.A refuah shleimeh bekorev!

  3. thanks r' hershil for posting and sharing with us these very intresting photos. it must be clear though, that this did did happen in the glory days of belz, the reason may seem very simple, they had no electric, they used candles, is was a very tiny village, poor and dirty, known for its muddy swampy street, cleaning for pesach was not for dirt, they whould not clean in belz.
it was unlike bobov, lublin lodz ects. were clean was a priority and life everyday. but for a shul thats was something, in belz they had nothing better.

  6. I'm just upset that the fellow cleaning the Kodesh Kodoshim wasn't wearing a white shirt and bekeshe. Did he go to the Mikvah beforehand?
I hope he wasn't an Araber, or worse, a Tziyoni.

kost eych teyer in krom az men rampt die lompen in shul ?

  9. "are theses pictures official press release of Merkaz Belz"

No they are from Carnegie hall or Lincoln center! with so much poor yiden in belz why so much excess of luxury all from schnorred money! to satisfy one mans oversized EGO (Easing God Out) to make up his lag of real belz pride, which is down so much more than all other chasidus’er combined!

I wish they made public a list of all real contributors to this enterprise called belz of medinas yisrael! that will answer a lot of questions on what belz of today really is

  11. I think this is wonderful

    A. לרומם את בית אלוקינו why shouldn't shuls, all shuls be kept as pristine and esthetically pleasing as possible especially in an era when so many of us expend a lot of sweat and treasure to make sure our private homes are spic and span

    B. An ounce of maintainence is worth a pound of restoration. Better to spend a few dollars in the present keeping the place in great shape than to let it go to seed and then have to mount a multi-gazillion dollar restoration campaign 15 years from now.

Seriously...what's objectionable here? i can see how building such a palace in the first place might be controversial but once it's up? polish and maintain it!

  14. Bray,
    You are right!

I am getting very frustrated by these anti-Belz pieces, the posts imply the disdain and the comments pronounce it. Reading all this cynicism makes me root for Belz more and more. I know Chabad prides itself on a Malchus that thrived with a minimally maintained Formica design. And that is admirable in its own way. But there is also the "Zeh Ei-li V'Anveihu" mesora, and I'm glad it exists somewhere, and that the somewhere is in Yerushalayim. There's that line in Koheles about laziness causing a roof to sag. so I'm glad someone is concerned about cobwebs in chandeliers.

I think I saw Bobov Chusid on Comedy Central last night. His jokes about the "blote" in Belz and the "outhouses" were absolutely hilarious! There were endless jokes about the primitive peasants in Belz and you couldn't stop laughing. Maybe it's already on You Tube. This fella is the real thing!

  16. Yehupitz: Formica? it was faux wood paneling bought at your local home improvement store, probably on sale. It should have been removed and placed in the commercial sheimos box a long time ago. Some quiet understated wallpaper would have been a great improvement.Maybe a nice, tasteful interior would also have a positive effect on the worshippers...

  17. I'm not saying something needs to be gipatchkit to be beautiful. But minimalist or maximilianus maintaining the physical plant of the building is a good and socially responsible policy.

  18. WHY DOSE IT BOTHER YOU SO MUCH THAT SOMEONE MAKES A BEAUTIFUL MAKOM TEFILAH? UNLESS YOU ARE GOING THE WAY THAT MOST BLOGGERS DO..ANGER RESENTMENT AND ULTIMATELY SCORN FOR ANYTHING HOLY. AND NO, I AM NOT A BELZER CHASSID....

  19. Sorry these chandeliers don't have a Yiddeshe taam. They look straight out of Saddam's Hussien's palace.

  20. The anger stems from the fact that Belz can't afford it. This was financed by taxing the members, many who are struggling. This is what empires with dictators do, they strip the colonies of their assets. This building was really built with blood, sweat and tears.
Yehupitz is rooting for Belz that's like rooting for Louis XIV.
Belz is on the verge of implosion. Fear is the glue that keeps it together. As it continues to grow the probability of a crash will increase and then watch out.
Look what happened to Bobov the peaceful Chassidus. Belz is not Bobov.

  21. Jingle Belz

yes, exactly. the belz "world center" is like Sadam Hussain's palace.

its built off the backs of poor community members. sell the chandeliers and feed your poor chassidim.

  22. I finally understand why Lubabs feel good that there are (in their minds) a couple of Lubab/lomdim that are the greatest and 'biggest' in the world! Since Chabad is the only true group within Judaism, it wouldn't make sense if the shpitz are elsewhere. Hence, the mere knowledge that there exists a handful of "shpitz" Lubavitchers, warms the heart of you people where ever you are.
    That's sick!

  24. The Belzer Ruv is now involved in getting all kinds of troubled kids off the streets without regard as to which chug they belong to. He is kind, respectful and caring. He rebuilt the old Belzer Shule just as the Beis Hamikdash was rebuilt. He is one of the tzadikei hador of our generation. His Hassidim are exceedingly proud of their shule.I'll listen to your criticism when I'll see the certified audits of the financial holdings of the other gutte yidn who grace the color sections of our favorite Jewish newspapers. Then we'll know what's up and what's not.

  26. BELZ IS A TRAILBLAZER IN EVERYTHING TRIEF BY THE EARLY (BELZ) CHASSIDUM, LIKE: HASKALA, FALSE DRAMA, TZIONISIM, UNNESSACARY LUXUARY, UNKOSHER MONIES, MODERNISIM ON AND ON.. WITH NO END!

  27. "getting all kinds of troubled kids off the streets"

The way belz goes it might wind up to be a second 'chabad like' disaster of a Chasidic dynasty.

  28. old world belz used to be in the forefront and on the offensive for everything yiddish! Now they are always on the defensive side they have an inferiority complex with a superiority size EGO! (Easing God Out) practicing casidus ‘light’ non filling formula of chasidus.

"old world belz used to be in the forefront and on the offensive for everything yiddish!"
having Moisdois hatorah for 1000's of kids bucherim and girls is being on the offensive in our generation, Being by a protest Yafo and Ashkelon is sheer nonsense leading to nowhere.

  30. "Remember: you can't drink my milk, but I can't drink your wine."
Well that all depends on what milk you drink. As to you not being able to drink my wine, according to which poisek? "Rabbi"Dr. Berger or Maran mBnai Brak? Peleh ploim, Maran who would assume-ably list Dr.Berger as another member of the "untouchable" caste in his Michtovim Umaimorim since he's MO, agree on the same thing when it comes to Lubavitch.Birds of a feather.....

  32. The real reason people don't like the Belzer is because
he is independent minded, doesn't care if the other gedolim like what he's doing or not,is involved deeply in outreach and has a powerful sense of his role in Jewish history. In all these matters he very much resembles the Lubavitcher Rebbe OBM.He is very much a leader unlike most of his hassidic contemporaries.I understand, however, that there are more important things to do like measuring the moisture and sodium content of Arizona wheat. Now that's real old fashioned down home finger lickin good Hassidus!

  38. You don't think Moshe Rabeinu had a sense of his role in Jewish History? Yetzias Mitzrayim and 40 years of travelling to EY were somehow not part of his consciousness?Bilti lashem levado does not mean you don't know the importance of what you're doing in your life.

  39. Hirshel, I don't think you hate Belz, but I suspect that you do "hate" Belz, but only so much as your sense of Chabad Hiskashrus makes you think you must. Kvodo Bimkomo...

    Bilti Lashem means
the "You" dont exsist. unfortunately u will not see the the biur in the belzer torahs.

  41. an.9:10 The "you" always exists. Otherwise we are c"v dead. The teachings of the early Hassidim, the Besht vetalmidov talk about this in great detail. You are fooling yourself if you think you have no ego while living in this world. For instance, take our "conversation" right now...
