hey hirshel, what is your opinion http://a-farbrengen.blogspot.com/2013/01/on-voting-in-elections-in-land-of-israel.html in light of reb deitch's opinion
The man is right. The word 'chareidi' does have a simple meaning. And the Rebbe could have easily couched it in so many other ways, but he didn't, year after year.
Plus the Rebbe never gave any reasoning behind his approach (to vote for the most hareidi party). That being the case, there isn't much left to discuss. Like "does that apply today?' etc.
The great and natural distaste one feels toward 'Gimel' doen't change anything (and isn't an argument)
Just for your information:"Aleh Yarok", whose main issue is the legalization of marijuana and other narcotics got a respectable 38 votes ( 1.6% )in Kfar Habad.
He's right. Bepashtus, "Charedi" means gimmel. But the Rebbe said that loshon in the Yuds, before mesiras hashtochim became an issue. But when it became an issue, gimmel disqualified themselves as Charedi by consistently collaborating with those who want to surrender Jewish land, property, and money to our bloodthirsty enemies, directly causing, bederech hateva (of course, everything that happens is bigzeiras HKB"H), to the slaughter, maiming, expulsion, dispossession, and financial ruin of many thousands of Jews. There are words for those who act in such a way, and charedi isn't one of them.
Reb Chaim Shulem is very Choshev, but he is not the last word, A shaliach in Rosh Pinah looks at things different.
