I davened in his shtibel for many years. He was Ruv in Kleinpest before the war and he had some connection to R' Yoylish (I forgot the details). He sincerely loved all yiden. He was very nisragesh by the first Lebanon War and started saying the tefillas for the medina and tzahal in his shtibel (uvini shebashumaym...I always thought it must be the last place in the world where it was said in that accent), and installed large murals of the koisel on the walls.
He was a very geshmake Yid - I used to daven by his shul sometimes.
