Reb Chaim Ozer's Mivtza Sefer Torah l'ilui nishmas the Chofetz Chaim, zt"l

You guys are always telling me how the Lubavitcher Rebbe always took things from others and made as if they were his own, original ideas. You cite examples and "proof" such as the entire "Shlichus" system, which he took from the Novardokers, which he got from R. Hodakov, the man from Riga who was educated by Reb Yoel Zaitchik. If only you'd know the half of it! Here's another thing that we took from the Litvakkes, Mivtza Ksivas Sefer Torah. Except the Rebbe didn't go as far with מבצע כתיבת ספר תורה as Reb Chaim Ozer did when he initiated the writing of the sefer Torah after the passing of the Chofetz Chaim. RCO calls it a Mitzvah, and tells us that by buying a letter we fulfill the mitzvah, which customarily has been done בשותפות, the Rebbe didn't say that having an אות was being מקיים a מצוה. Or at least that wasn't the idea behind writing the sifrei torah, which continue to this very day. It was simply a means to unite Jewish children by getting each one a letter in the ST. And whoever buys a letter will have his name recorded in a journal which will be placed on the CC's place! Another Chabad plagiarizing act, placing new Chabad seforim and pidyonos at the Rebbe's seat in the cheder haYechidus, just like they did with the Chofetz Chaim.

  1. Nu, it was a fundraiser for the vaad hayeshivos a"h. What's the big chiddush here?

everything needs to be a "big chiddush," otherwise they're not excited...

  3. There is a major difference. Rco's sefer torah was written as a mitvas kesivas sefer torah or as a fundraiser as mitzvas tzedoko.
Otoh, the lr invented from his boich some new mitzvos based somewhat on Torah. Unity is not a mitzvah. Veohavta lereacho komoicho does not mean anything like partnership in writing a sefer torah, especially when the children are not using their own money because they cant.
The shlichus of novardhok was mitzvas veshinantom levonecho eilu hatalmidim. Then it gets changed to open a chabad house in every state (like nyc is saturated with Judaism and the only place to bring Judaism is outside! ) to make culturally appropriate celebrations to remind jews that they are Jewish. That is not a mitzvo and the ideas are a distortion of sublime Torah ideals.

Reb Chaim Oizer writes in paragraph 3 that the main reason is to glorify the Chofetz chaims name and get all jews a part of that torah and all names will be inscribed in a special book put at his pulpit. This paragraph has a small contradiction, since he writes its not for A zecher.
By the end he adds the money for vaad hayeshivasas a side show

I see that holy tzadikim have Holy Bellies,
The holy belly of RCO (your derogatory name for the great Achiezer)told him that we see in a Posuk in Nechemiya 10-33 we see some new chidush that you do a sefer torah for a tzadik, there is no chazal or midrash etc sourced for that.Even though chazal say the opposite we dont a zikaron for a tzadik, but the Possuk tells us different, thats the chidush of the holy belly of the great Achiezer.
The holy belly of the achiezer invented some new alien concept in the Litvish yidisher world, that after the death of a Godel we worship his place and we put like a Kolles Kvitel (real chasidic concept)on his place.
It is strange that he does add to the Kol koreh that "you will be together with tens of thousands of yiden in 1 sefer torah"
thats basically the concept of Rebinie Hakodesh Milubavich zechusoi Yugen Olinie

    There is big diffrence:
    1. Bnei Korach did tshuva so they are "alive in the pit"
    2. They were talmidei chachomim.

  9. Tzig,
What would be wrong copying a good idea? Why are you so sure that the shlichus model of Lubavitch is based on Novardok?Novardok were the first ones who actively sent bochurim to open up yeshivos across Poland and this movement would be ery familiar to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, he did not need R'Hodakov to tell him about it.
No need to be in denial

You are correct there is no problem to emulate others on Avodas Hashem, There is no question that the Reshabs yeshiva in White Russia was based on the Valozhiner yeshiva and its offsprings, just with a chasidic bend. Nobody can deny that.
But shlichus was not a trademark of Navardok, the Reshab did send already in Russia some emissaries to build up cities from the ground up
