On YomTov, up until the passing of his mother-in-law on 10 Teves 5731, keyodua, the Rebbe would eat the seudos upstairs in the Frierdige Rebbe's apartment. There were other occasions, such as Purim, Yud Tes Kislev and Yud Beis Tammuz, when there would be a small, short farbrengen before the large farbrengen in 770. These pictures are from one such farbrengen, Yud Tes Kislev 5722. Near the Rebbe sits Reb Shmuel Levitin and next to him Reb Shlomo Aron Kazarnovsky. The late Leibel Bistritzky is also visible standing behind RSAK in picture 4.
Also in the fourth photo - next to R. Bistritzky is R. Leibel Alevsky, shliach to Cleveland. And second from left is R. Zissel Piekarski of maareches Otzar HaChassidim
ReplyDeleteIt's Label Volovik, not Leibel Bistritzky.
ReplyDeleteLooks like R. Shmuel Levitan was leading the farbrengen, or at least talking. At the big ones, only the Rebbe spoke.
ReplyDeleteLeibel Volovik, not Bistritzky.
ReplyDeleteAmerican essayist Joseph Epstein defines name dropping as follows :
ReplyDeletename-dropping [...] is using the magic that adheres to the names of celebrated people to establish one's superiority while at the same time making the next person feel the drabness of his or her own life. Name-dropping is a division of snobbery, and one of the snob's missions is to encourage a feeling however vague of hopelessness in others.
