Hi Rabbeinu, Still love your blog. I found this and thought of you. It's a maysa about Rav Baruch Ber from Rav Yehuda Gershuni, otherwise known as Yud'l Grodner, one of the greatest illuyim of the pre and post war generation. He had semicha from Rav Baruch Ber, among others. He was later a talmid of Rav Kook and eidem by Rav Eliezer Silver. This is from a sefer zikaron about him called Afikei Yehuda.
פעם בא שו"ב לפני רביז"ל שהוא מוכרך להפסיק עבודתו מפני חטאתו אשר הוא לנגד עיניו תמיד כמ"ש "וחטאתי לנגדי תמיד" וזה מפריע לו בשעת עבודתו. רביז"ל ענה לו שלא נכון הדבר כן כי הקרבן "תמיד של שחר ושל בין הערביים" גם כן היה נקראים קרבן "תמיד" ולא היה "תמיד" כל היום, כמו"כ החטאתי - חטאת שלך - תהיה לנגד עיניך רק בבוקר לזרז לשכום, ובערב תעשה מרי דחושבנא קודם השינה, ובודאי לא בשעת "העבודת היום".. וכו
ReplyDeleteנ.ב. הרה"ג ר' יצחק טורץ ז"ל חתנו של ר' ברוך בער ז"ל שהיה מתאכסן לאורך ימים בבית אביז"ל, היה לו שיעור קבוע בלילה שבתות האריכות עם אביז"ל בס' אורח חיים הק' עה"ת והיה דורש כל תיבה בה בחיות דקדושה ובמאור פניו עד להפליא.. ופעם אמר לאביז"ל כפלא בתמימיתו שאף פעם לא למד או ראה את הספה"ק והנורא הזה. ובאמת אף חומש ורש"י וחוק יעקב הם לא לומדים. וזה פריה

DeleteIn the book Mesoras Chasam Sofer, (compilation of articles on the chasam sofer) published and edited with footnotes by Rav B S Hamburger he has some piece that the Chasam Sofer stoppd his sons(non married) from learning the holy sefer Rieshis Chochama as too stringent and can cause depression.
ReplyDeleteThe chidush with reb Burech Ber is, that he stopped his disciples to learn Sharia Teshuvah of Rebinie Yonah which is quoted in poskim as halacha, is it different then Rambam Hilchas Teshuvah?

I would argue the opposite, the "Sharia Teshuvah" will make you happy not sad, after all the 300 million worldwide "depressed" people (including lutvaks) are not into learning the "Sharia Teshuvah"!
