אויסגעבראכען, אויסגעשלאפען - צוריק צו דער ארבעט

Purim has come and gone. It usually does very quickly. By the time you realized what happened to you it's time to get back to work. Unless you're part of the new trend. Unless you're from those lucky thousands that can have an extra day to party. the Shushan Purim Bigdei Shabbos crowd. א נייע מעשה אשר לא ידעו אבותינו ואבות אבותינו! Thousands of people who are mechutonim with Shushan all of a sudden. I guess the reason is simple; the last generation has bred a class of unemployed masses that never existed when I was growing up. It's not that 30 years ago somebody decided on a new minhag of wearing bigdei shabbos on SP, it's just that it wasn't practical until recently, since most people went to work ווי טאטעלעך the next day! Today, that the numbers of the willfully unemployed has skyrocketed, we're able to practice our religion freely, since the good G-d has removed from within us - for some of us anyway - the yoke of the Government....

Truth is I fargin everybody his extra day of shtraymel/bekishe wearing. Why wouldn't I? If I don't I sound hateful, and that's one thing I'm trying to avoid like di Kadooches. At least somebody remembers that it's Shushan Purim af der velt, even if it is the unemployed. A Chassidisher Yid once explained to me why the Chagas Chassidim are so into Bigdei Shabbos at every ocassion: he says that it follows the give and take of Rotzo and Shuv. Bigdei Shabbos is an expression of wanting to be closer to Hashem, he says. The Chagas Chossid puts on his Shmone Begodim, with the Rezhvulke on top of it all, and he feels a tefach hecher, (like when the Chabad chossid learns a Maamar Chassidus, I would say.) He feels like he's done whatever it takes to be a vessel for the holy shechinah. The Chabadnik, with his Oysgedroshene Kapote and smashed hat can't get that feeling. It's just doesn't happen. That's why those feelings don't come as easily for the poor guy. Which is why he has nisht kan Olam Hazeh un nisht kan Olam Haboh.

  5. I am sorry,

I left chabad because even those who grew up 'btzel nosi doirenu' and heard his sichos and saw him week in and week out, feel more at home between modern orthodox than 'chagas chassidim'. They find most minhagimirrelevant in light of the . Chagas chassidim you talk about are like the chabad youth of today. Don't compare chagas chassidim to the fools of Boro Park and Williamsburg who never learnt or appreciated chagas chassidus. I grew up hearing that the Rebbe Reb Elimelech was a good but illiterate jew who did little else but made them feel good, sang with them and made lechayim but had little going on under his shtraimel.

Even the Besht was only useful in as the initiator of what Chabad has the copyright to today. We all know the only reason chabad teaches about the Besh and Mezritcher Magid was a starting act, which was the Alter Rebbe, like Ger did with Kotzk. The really relevant stuff only started with the Alter Rebbe and any other talmidim were only there as a support act for the weak people too stupid to relate to chabad.

The problem is Chabad is only successful today because they became more chagas than chabad. Just look at the wild shokling in the Rebbe videos put out by JEM. Toady in Crown Heights most don't even understand the chassidus they learn (if they learn at all) and the children of most shluchim are more off the derech than the people their parents are trying to suck the money out of.

Unfortunately the kedoishim of Mumbai were the exception to the rule rather than the rule in chabad. Except fot the mesiras nefesh yidden in Russia, Asia etc... most wouldn't have hergesh for a dovor shebikdush if it hit them in the face and spend their free time at the movies and baseball games.

Chagas chassidim wear the levush not to 'light the fire' but to remind them of the fire that already burns in every yid and the hergesh comes from what it represents.

Lets be honest putting on a shtraimel without the thought process behind it is like going on shlichs without knowing how to read aleph beis, which is what so many shluchim are doing today.....which is why chabad youth should be spending more time 'at home' than with the far out yidden.... except that almost no one else is doing the job, so bmokom shein ish.....'

  7. do you have hakafos on shmini atzeres? that too came from the hashpoa of eretzyisraeldike yidden.

Have you heard that biur on reb Elimelech from Reb Yoel or some other mashpia? that not much was under the shtriemel, The Tzemach Tzedek quotes him in his Oir Hatorah, Did you do bechinoth on the Bochurims understanding of chassidus in the last 10 years?
Your blanket statement that chabad had the last 2 great people in Mumbai and they got killed and its over, According to my estimate 80% of shluchim are as great just reshoim like you are not ready to accept, just the Mumbai shluchim were more in your face by multiple testimonies so "Afilu Malach Rai Baal Korchoi Yana Oman"

  10. 1. Although I agree with the general sentiments expressed in this post. I will note the follwoing :
1.If the US govt is so good that it allows the conditions to develop that we can take 2 days off from work , then why does the same govt persecute the Rubashkins ? And why is Lubavitch involved in a massive libel against the same US governnent ?
2.The idea of clothing playing a role in giving one a feeling of kedushas Shabbes is not limited to Chagas people..
I recall reading Rav Shimon Schwab's description of Frankfurt Jews donning top hats and silk scarves to go to shul on Shabbes.A few select members of KAJ still wear special clothing for Yom tov.
And Chabad chassidim who in days of yore wore a kapote every day of the year (prior to 1918) also had special clothing that indicated kedushas Shabbes , perhasp Zeidene begodim. My father always related that the Anash in Kurenitz (White Russia) were makpid not to wear shirts with buttons rather they wore shirts(like polo shirts) that tied with strings and left them untied (today these are called rebbeshe hemeder my father called it a rubashke!). And on Shabbes they wore kaloshin shoes without laces so they would not tie them. Their caps were made of special material for Shabbes with a Shabbosdike gartel. Of course Chabad in modern times did not place that much stress on begodim, but my father would recall "der feter Yiroel leifendik fun Mikve in yontevdiker kapote". The kapote was special.
The same was true for the Litvishe Yid as well.
Thus both my parents would talk about "di Shabbesdike Kapote" In Lita a Yid would wear a nice robe to his Shabbes table.
MO Jews today wear a nice white kippah seruga for Shabbes.
Forgive me for saying this but most Lubavitchers that I know under 75 are so westernized and acculturated ( and a good number burnt out) that these issues are secondary to them , in fact they appear to wear the surdut and gartel more like a costume for Shabbes rather than it being a part of their own body.
I for one believe that after the Holocaust and the murder of 6 million Jews the new levsuh of the Jew is a short coat with plain levush. The shtreimele and bekishe etc have been cheapened by many of its wearers.

  11. It is like if in Chabad rather than Chagas they make no eisik to make 'Pirim Indervochen', Are'nt the chabadsker wearing kaputtes on YAT Kisleiv? Are'nt the Chabadsker farbrenging every other day and night in another Yomme d'pagre once with an hilula and then with some sort of geulla or another YOM ZAKKAY. Please Rabbi Tzik stop the crap... Chabad is not that perfect.

Are u scared of the tought police, since I see that u use Yidish.
The EU and Canadian judical sytems are more logical then the US systems. This kind of false puritinasim that judges and legislators are preaching from their benches are ruining peoples lives, while most of them are corrupted. It was just in the news that 10% of State of Georgia elected officals are Tax Cheats, so they would like to reverse some laws for thir benefit.

  18. You know, I can really sympathize with your post on Shabbos clothes for Shushan Purim. Sometimes I feel like I am completely crazy --or perhaps the only sane person in a crazy world. I go to shul on Shushan Purim and feel underdressed. That is, until I see that the Gerers are also vochedig. This is all a consequences of Hitler, ym"sh. If he had started in Hungary and Romania and only hit Lita, Reissin and Poland at the end, then we would be living with fewer chandeliers, less gaudy judaica (and brasss not silver), normal attitudes about ishus and tznuis -- and of course, weekday clothes on Shushan Purim. Alas.

  20. Anonymous. If you believe that the Jews especially frum Jews in the EU in countries like Belgium , the UK and Switzerland enjoy the same comfort level as we do in the US , you are wrong. In Switzerland and Sweeden shechita of certain types is banned. In Englland physical attacks against frume Yidden in Stamford Hill are routine. I need not tell you about the situation in Belgium.Hey do you recall the murder of the gabe of the Peshvorsker rebbe ? But its a free world if you feel the US is involved in a war against Jews (only 13 of 100 US Senators are Jewsih )or Orthodox jews why not move to Switzerland , where you will need to do Army service, eat imported meat rather than the juicy Rubashkin cuts and even while off duty, but on call for the army wear a uniform made of Shaatnes. Its your choice !
Meanwhile I have not heard that the US govt has closed any shuls ,a rrested any rabis ,closed yeshivas or abolished shechita (there seems to be plenty of meat and poultry all over the US) Wait I forgot the US govt is anti semitic because it insists frume Yidden also pay taxes and obey the law. Just wait a few years when Mr. Obama enacts a national service law for all men and women , dan vest du voyen and rightfully so !
