A S J sees things the Tzig way!

A Simple Jew: Just Like New Coke?

My Comment there:

"Man, you stole my thunder, I was gonna post on that, I was even shlepping around the free sample they were distributing!

Of course Artscroll sets the tone and decides what's "in", so I guess חק לישראל is "out". They also made sure that (at least Parshas Bresihis) has no pieces from Chassidishe Seforim. All recent Rosh Yeshivos, yes, but no Chasidim, not even "generic" ones like the Sfas Emes.

Way to go Scherman!"

The more I look at the comment the more I like it, I should start a class on this subject......

  2. How many people learn the old Chok today, honestly? Do you Hirshel ? Have you ever? How many Lubavitchers do?

Do you think that it would have been a success to just put out another edition of it?

Maybe there was good reason to make the changes Artscroll did, to try to get more people to look at the new work?

Also, is it proper to blame R. Scherman for everything you don't like at Artscroll? How do you know he was behind this?

  3. Tzig, why don't you team up with with R. Pinchos Lipschutz of the Yoseid, who is part of a Chok shiur in Monsey (as part of his wannabe Chassidish side) and put out an old Chok to compete with Artscroll?

  4. Wait a sec Hirshel....
There will be many vertlach from Lubavitch in the next edition................when Lubavitch inc. by way of one of its publishing arms prints any non Lubavitch vort, EVEN a generic SFAS EMES VORT!
Actually, Artscroll has published Sfas Emes seforim, remind me what non Lubavitch seforim Lubavitch has published lately (or ever).

Just curious, why do you bother? It's a free country stop buying Artscroll, if you hate them so much.

the reason people don't learn Chok is simply because it's a lost tradition, just like many others. It's the idea that's lost, (maybe replaced by the Daf Yomi?)

Why should reprinting help? It's a tedious task every day to learn all that material, believe me when I tell you. This is obviously a take-off on the Chok. It remains to be seen if it'll be successful, I doubt it.

As far as blaming Rabbi Scherman: who else do I "blame"? he puts his name on as editir every book that comes out, so if he'll take the credit let him take some flack too.

  6. Tzig,
you are back to your old Pravda censorship? You didn't post my post asking why you crticize aRTSCROLL when Lubavitch publishes nothing besides Lubavitch.
Grow up,I thought you were mature enough for discussion.

I could've sworn that I did post it. In any case the omission was unintentional. I'll print it now if I can get it out of the recycle bin.

  8. BTW, Kehos printed Sdei Chemed when it wasnt available - but in any event, the role of Kehos is not to print seforim that everyone else is printing.

Chok IS regularly studied by people from 'Ungarishe' backrounds - or from families that stressed it's use. Chabad - or any Russian chassidusin - were into Chok (I think a number of Rebbe's in the early doros of chassidus argued its merits - I seem to rememeber R' Nachman Breslover wasnt pro-chok either). But in any case, with the addition of Chitas in Lubavitch, or daf_HaYomi in teh velt, Chok was naturally going to be left somewhat by the wayside.

  9. Sorry for spoiling your simchas yom tov you chabad haters, but it is a matter of a fact that Nissen Mindel in his Story Teller has stories of all kind of tzadikim.
The new shulchan oruch has Marie Mekomoth to all kind of seforim.

Artscroll claims to be the publishing arm of klal yisroel, so why be selective on your commenteries, thank hashem for the competition of artscroll in the gemora field, that they can not shove down our throats what ever is accepted in the Wolpin Sherman circle, in Isreal they are fighting back with foolish ads.

  10. Thanks for the only two or three examples you could come up with, out of the thousands of seforim and over a fifty plus years of Lubavitch publishing!
Btw, if you are speaking about your new edition of shulchan oruch horav that took you so many years to come up with:It has mareh mekomos to all kinds of seforim.Shkoiach, genius! And what did you want, that they would post mareh mekomos to only THE TWO AND A HALF Lubavitcher seforim on shulchan oruch or gemorah?Wow that would be a good idea!

  13. I'd like to here from Lubavitchers and misnagdim alike: How many of you do shnayim mikra ve'echad targum every week???

Like it's a halacha in Shulchan Aruch Hilchos Shabbos - to be done every week - like, say, kiddush.

Daf Yomi, Chitas, Rambam Yomi etc are fine - but not at the expense of this clear requirement.

the chitas plan effectively wiped pout chol- dont take on artscroll- take on lubavitch

  15. Chitas and Rambam serve the same purpose as chok, rambam (halacha pesukas) instead of mishnayoth, and tanya (penimiyoth hatora) instead of Zohar, vs books with rayonoth of Frand and Wein and stories of Shavadron,
it is baal tashchis to kill a tree for that,
