There was a story in COL after the passing of the "ברך משה" of Sighet-Satmar that he came to the Rebbe together with other Rabbonim (The Shoproner comes to mind) after the attack on Satmar began then. This was in the late '50's, and things like that were just not done in those days. They wanted the Rebbe to support their position, and the Rebbe did, even speaking about it at the next Farbrengen!

דער רבי און דער שטן Is one of the nastiest books ever written about a Godol B'Yisroel. Problem is most of cannot be refuted. He writes of the harrassment he endured just for writing articles disagreeing with the Satmarer approach to Zionism. He quotes Rav Henkin extensively, and that's no pushover source.
ReplyDeleteI never read it but I heard that he has some juicy details of Reb Yoel having a apetite to become rov in Siget after his brother's unexpected petira, and the widow rebetzin chased him out of town.
ReplyDeleteThis Liberman was harrasing Reb Yoel big time, I read in Der Blatt that Reb Yoel couldn't take it anymore he sent him a subpena for the secular courts,I would appreciate if someone knows some more details to spill the beans.The regular satmars don't like to discuss it since the official line is that the Rebbe was a baal mesiras nefesh and a day that there was no negative news in the media against Reb Yoel, the rebbe was "betzar"

I don't know why people can't stick to the subject presented here. If you have nothing to say, don't. This was meant to be about either his visit to Eretz Israel or the book by Chaim Lieberman, not about the Rabbonus in Sighet.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing a poster in Zupniks book on another trip of reb Yoelish to Eretz and they wrote on him in Zohar language "The only son of the Shechina"
