Az M'Lebt DerLebt men......
Teihu: a Jewish (3/4 Lubavitch!) Heavy Metal Band
From the smoke blackened depths of Pittsburgh comes the sight of Heavy Metal thunder and the sound of Mind Bending lightning... Teihu combines all forms of Metal into a screeching cacaphony of bliss that will sear your very soul!
The Lubavitchers' Bios:
Reb Mendel the Sheichet
Yossel the Shikker
Bear
Mendel the Sheichet lists "The Alter Rebbe" as his alter ego. Can I pat myself on the back right around now? I seem to remember Lamenting phenomenons such as these a while back. I hate it when I'm proven right on points like these. Unless we can spin it this way; That Yiddishkeit, Torah, and Mitzvos are so appealing to non-Frum people that even stoned heavy metalers see the beauty of it! Or, that HM "music" is so pure and spiritual that even Chassidic Jews can see the beauty in it!
Don't get me wrong here; when I see guys making blanket statements like "It's the BTs' fault," I cringe with disgust. Lubavitch would be much better off if we all had the sincerity of Baalei Tshuveh. It's the so-called Mashpiyim that take advantage of that sincerity and Temimus that we have to blame. Seems like these guys won some kind of "battle of the bands" in the Steel City too. Very nice. A big Kiddush Hashem, and an even bigger Kiddush Shem Lubavitch.
Well, at least A Simple Jew has what to listen to now.....
Another roshei teiveis for HM! hmmmmmm...
ReplyDeleteHeres the thing, Hirshel: They arent the first kids of frum upbringing to play non-Jewish type of music. So what's unique here, is that they maintain their Lubavitch affiliations, while others of this type generally don't.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
Well, because being a Lubavitcher has "cool," and other frum circles don't.
So, now, what's that say?
Well, because being a Lubavitcher has "cool," and other frum circles don't.
ReplyDeletewhat does that mean; "has" cool?
C'mon, H, you know what it means. It means, they still feel it's cool to be a Lubavitcher.
ReplyDeleteAnother frum group, on the other hand is NOT cool. So, an ex-Yerushalmi, Snag or Bobover, for example, he dosen't keep any of his former affiliations - rather, he want's to be cool...
I really didn't know what you're talking about; especially with words like want's (sic)
ReplyDeleteYou're beginning to write like a BP/Willy/CH am ho'oretz, putting apostrophes where they don't belong.
So what you're saying is that's a good thing that he likes HM yet still chooses to retain all his Jewish/Chassidic affiliations?
On an unrelated topic: What is the deal with Ariel Sokolovsky? Are his ideas as mainstream as he suggests them to be?
ReplyDeleteI ask as a fan of Lubavitch, but, to be frank, he's weirding me out.
Hirshel, I see that Tzemach was right takeh about you after all!
ReplyDeleteZez
ReplyDeletehow so?
Tzig. Your Ungarische background comes out between the lines.
ReplyDeleteYou can discern between the authentic Pnimiyuth of Lubavitch and chadoshim Lebekorim bau.
I admire your writing and most of your comments concerning the Matisyahu phenomenom ; I too wrote abut this last year.
I am not part of the contemporary Chabad society and I do not know whose "fault" anything is . One just does know that you see Chabad rock stars, boxers, feminists , Kabbalists selling their "wares" vechuli.
What does all of this mean ? It means very little if its not played up in the PR world , if it is it is "sam hamaves" for the whole Chabad society.
In the 1920's there was a Jewish Hitman a gangster who was Shomer Shabbath and had the nickname "never on Saturday ".
I gather that today if he existed some elements in Chabad would play him up and call it a kiddush hashem !!
This group of kids are not particularly ultra-chasidish, and don't do this out of chassidishkeit. They need an outlet, and heavy metal is theirs. They are not particular heros or played up in their communities. The references to Chasidus are more tongue in cheek. This isn't Matisyahu.
ReplyDeleteAriel has about 4 people with him. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteHmmm,
ReplyDeleteThank you. His blog really frightens me.
I think Hirshel is wrong by trying to disown this guys from Chabad, the are not bad yisishe kinder, he is getting off from the rebbes path in Ahavath Yisroel.
ReplyDeleteYeah, seven doros of mesiras nefesh just to see these four "tmimimim". Itcheh Der Masmid is just kvelling with nachas from up in ginzei meromimim.........
ReplyDeleteHello... I'm from PGH and these guys are not kids. They're all over thirty and 'Bear' is a middle aged doctor with a kid that must be ten already.
ReplyDeleteThe Sheichet's father actually is a very Chassidishe yid with a web site disseminating Chassidus...

The Zichron Yosef . . . anyone know his position? Its not like Ariel's, right? (I am going through one of his seforim now on Sotah).

ReplyDeletetell us more; what are you seeing there?
Ok, here it is from the mouth of the "ferd" himself. It's interesting how some of you (especially the illustrious Rav Hirshel) are so quick to pass judgement on people they have never met. Hirshel, you have no idea what we're about, what HM is about and - if I'd have to go by what seems to be your bitter hatred of your fellow Jews - you likely haven't a clue what Chassidus is about. Ironic then that you find yourself so qualified to perform such a thorough analysis of all these 3 subjects, no?
ReplyDeleteBut at the end of the day what you say about me and the other Teiheads in either direction is fine and we likely owe you one for the free PR. What does bother me though, hirshel, is that you are so quick to condemn an entire international frum community assuming that they are "at fault" for the actions we take and highly recommend us for frum kids to listen to.
The truth of the matter is that we don't even recommend OURSELVES to frum kids (unless they are kids who have already been turned off by people like you, Hirshel, and are starting to get involved in the Goyishe HM scene and need to be redirected to Nichoyach). As far as the Chabad Kehilla, they tolerate us just like they do the Meshugener who sits in the corner talking to himself and laughing at imaginary things on the ceiling, i.e. unlike you they are not willing to discount us as Yidden just because we have flaws.
To Chabad, the choices in my particular scenario are likely something like: is it better to have a guy who keeps Shabbos, Kashrus, Taharas Hamishpacha, etc but has a flaw of being involved with the HM world or is it better to push him away and announce him "Oys Yid". Luckily, Chabad goes with the former approach while you would seem to favor the latter.
I bless you Hirshel that the Eibershter not judge you as you judge others.

ReplyDeleteSaying Hashem's name is muttar, for one, because Mashiach is here. And his reference to the Rebbe--whose works and personality I very deeply revere--as the Rebbe Almighty. His blog is called RebbeGod.
With all my admiration to the Nasi HaDor and Tzadik of our times, I find that disturbing.
I was talking about the Zichron Yosef, not Ariel.
ReplyDeleteHe quotes the Rebbe alot. I was just wondering if he would believe in any of that stuff. I got really shaken up about it.
ReplyDeleteAriel is not all of Lubavitch.Yet.
ReplyDeleteBut , yeah, it's scary because he started out a meshichist, and if you check out some of their stuff, it's wacko, so I see where he is coming from. The problem is that the meshichists are a strong voice in Lubavitch an apologists for them abound including members of the Crown Heights Beis Din.
Can somebody here tell me how a thread about HM Lubavitchers got back to Ariel?!
ReplyDeleteNo answer to my question?
ReplyDeleteThe question I have is about specific people and their views. I know the incredible respect the Zichron Yosef has for the Rebbe. I know of the limitless respect I have for the Rebbe, too. I am just asking where he fits in the ideaological line with respect to his view on the rebbe. If Ariel is a yuchid, fine. If outstanding talmidei chachomim endorse him (or not), I want to know.
ReplyDeleteNo answer . . . hmmm . . . (and no, I am not talking about the colossal prick, hmmm).
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what the last comment was about, nor do I understand what the Zichron Yosef has got to do with Ariel.
ReplyDeleteNo "outstanding Talmidei Chachomim" endorse what Ariel opines. Period.
Thank you, Ross.
