דער בריסקער פרינץ קומט שטיצען "דער רבי חנינא בן דוסא פונעם דור" און בעט פון אידן אים צוהעלפן

At the dinner for the Central Lubavitcher Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in New York, 5702/1942: (l-r:) Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, Rabbi Shmaryahu Gurary The Rebbe Rayatz, נ"ע, The Rebbe זי"ע. The following three pages are his speech transcribed as it was said - in Yiddish. The Rebbe Rayatz was - you might say - an even bigger "fan" of the "Rav" than even the Rebbe was, and he pushed hard for RYDS to succeed his father Reb Moshe ben הגר"ח in RIETS.

A report in the Chabad publication "תולדות חב"ד בארצות הברית" about the dinner and Rav Soloveitchik's speech. (See last paragraph)

  1. "And he pushed hard for RYDS to succeed his father Reb Moshe ben הגר"ח in RIETS."

Pardon the question: Who exactly was he "pushing".I"m not familiar enough, but who on the board of Yeshiva or the hanhala would have been swayed, were there any Lubavitchers there?

  2. pushing the presidium, hanholoh, whatever you wanna call it. I do not think there were many Lubavitchers in RIETS at the time, but the Rebbe was a very respected figure. Is that hard to believe?

  6. "but the Rebbe was a very respected figure. Is that hard to believe?"

Not hard to believe, just don't know if, his opinion carried weight in YU,and don't know what you are basing yourself on when you say he pushed for R'Solovochiks to be chosen.Bichlal, why would R'JB need a major push?Unlike his father, he was college educated with a PHD and spoke English, while at the same time being a world class talmid chochom and his fathers and grandfathers son!Who in the world would be better suited for what Yeshiva University was looking for at tthe time?
In short, I think A)There is no basis in truth for him being "pushed" B)Even if true, don't think that the Rebbes pushing would have helped any.
If you provide any objective source for this assertion, I "d be happy to see it.

I read (I am pretty sure in Rabbi Rakeffet's book about Rav Bernard Revel) that there was quite a bit of opposition among the students at YU to appointing Reb Yoshe Ber, and the Rayyatz was among those who publicized letters supporting him.

Have you ever heard of Asher Lopatin in Chicago who pashtus is the most radical leftist still in the OU who didn't leave for the Avi Weiss machaneh? Lopatin allows in his synagogue and Hebrew school the kids that Rahm Emmanuel had with a shiksa who was never megayer. He was also mattir Emmanuel, after getting the kibud of pesicha, to make a phone call on Rosh Hashana about economic policy. Lopatin drayed a kop that Obama's economic policies have a din "pikuach nefesh" and he as a "Brisker talmid" from YU is "machmir" on pikuach nefesh. Lopatin agav has been confronted publicly about Emmanuel's shiksa. He said it's "none of his business".

RJBS was alive for many years during which time YU started advocating toayveh.

What was the reaction from the Rebbe of Lubavitch in the early 1980s when this started?

YU also had an internal dating system dating to back then that does not separate the shiksos in Stern College from meeting Yiddishe bucherim.

There was also treif food being served for many years in the YU cafeteria until responsibility was farmed out to the OU.

Ish Brookline should change his name to Ish Buffoon.

There is no way in the world that the modern Schach has more neemonus than the gadol hador of the time R' Isser Zalman & his niece who they work looking for the biggest tzaddik & lamdan for her shidduch. This is not stam a shidduch. She was top pick in frumkeit & ehrlichkeit.

Maran Rav Schach ztl was already recognized as a gadol baTorah in his younger years and he had an appropriate Rebbitzen to go with it. He wrote shtiklach for prestigious kovtzim that only gedolim were invited to write for. The alter Mirrers and other chashuvei Lita would travel by train to Kletzk where he was a maggid shiur under R' Aron Kotler ztl for the zchus of speaking to him in lernen.

Dr. Schach is good for co-ed "Yeshiva" of Flatbush where he taught for many years. (R' Avigdor Miller always refused to call the place a yeshiva). This is the same place where the rosh "yeshiva" named Stadtmauer "came out of the closet" in a mass email to the parent body that he is a mishkav zachurnik (reported in Jewish Week).

But I won't even believe that Dr. Schach would lie to say such a thing about his tzaddekis mother because the dubious source is Ish Buffoon, the supporter of Broyde and everything else krum and twisted out of context.

  91. There are always plenty of extra smushed hats to go around at lubavitcher functions.

Hunchback, do you mean altz the pinch in the back or that they are shmatta hats even besides that?

  93. there were Chassidim that would sit at dinners such as these with the FR in attendance without a hat! so please do not attack the Rav.

"Maran Rav Schach ztl was already recognized as a gadol baTorah in his younger years and he had an appropriate Rebbitzen to go with it. He wrote shtiklach for prestigious kovtzim that only gedolim were invited to write for. The alter Mirrers and other chashuvei Lita would travel by train to Kletzk where he was a maggid shiur under R' Aron Kotler ztl for the zchus of speaking to him in lernen"

  100. Peoria, what is your source that the poor niece even could pay the tuition for medical school? She also would not seemingly qualify for scholarship if she didn't have good grades from a gymnasia before that.

Brookline, what is your point about menuvolim? I guarantee you, there are many more chassidishe ones and who are more hard core. The Gerrer chassidim alone outdo almost all the Litvishe. And there are plenty in Chabad too.

Which Lubavitcher yeshiva do you claim that Rav Schach "begged" to get a job?

Ish Brookline, you are really a rude person and a bit lacking in the "seichel" department.

Where do you see Rav Shach went begging for any job???
The fact is that the Ponovizher Rov, not exactly a small maven in running yeshivas pre war, hired the best and brightest:R'Shmuel Rozovsky,R'Dovid Povarsky and Rav Shach and was very, very matliach.
Please don't show off your ignorance. Also be honest andamit that you are a Lubavitcher.Nobody else would go around condemning "litvishe sheker".What do you think R'Yoshe Ber was, not a Litvack?
Stop using R'Yoshe Ber to further your own grievances. There are medicationsfor that
