HaGaon Reb Chaim Kanievski Shlit"a זאגט אריין פאר Larry Gordon about his (lack of) beard
And Reb Larry is man enough to tell us about it!
I'll go out on a limb here and say that Reb Chaim doesn't do this to every clean-shaven Harry that visits him. Matter o' fact, I'll bet you 20 bucks he doesn't. So either somebody told him about Larry's Lubavitcher yichus, or maybe there is some truth to what they say about RCK.... Then again, if he was using Lubavitch he'd maybe bring up the Tzemach Tzedek on the matter?
you are off, i know otter litvish people he asked the same
ReplyDeleteHow weird. Every litvish bucher has no tzelem elokim, why doesn't he tell them?
A lubavitcher relative of his came to visit with his bar mitzvah kid.
ReplyDeleteRCK asked him hayitochen he trims his beard. He answered so do most of your litvishe bochurim. RCY said "du zogst du bist a lubavitcher chossid un der tzemach tzedek assered"
תמיד שמעתי שהגרח"ק יודע את "כל התורה כולה", ושו"ת צ"צ חלק מן התורה לכל הדעות, אז....
ReplyDeleteI am not sure you are correct I know of a wealthy American nursing home owner who went to see Reb Chaim K in the apst yearand he asked him where his beard was , so I think he asks this of many people regardless of their yichus.
ReplyDeleteJuts another point Hatamim Larry's father did not have a beard either.
Schneur is correct, his father did not have a beard,
ReplyDeletebut to be clear, Reb chaim is not too much in to achronim, his Bekius is mostly Bavli,Yerushalmi,Midroshim sifri etc... but the Tzemach Tzedek's teshuva on the beard is world famous, for anybody who starts even to delve in to the beard issue,
In pre war Poland it was discussed in Kovtzim and then in the Hungarian Tal talpios, where the Munkacher Ruv stood up to some Hungarian Rav who dared to critic the Tzemach Tzedeks teshuva
What that the Temach Tzedek says that it is assur dioreisa to cut ones beard?
ReplyDeleteHe is assuring not on grounds of the pasuk of shaving, but rather beged isha issues of shaving. Which i never understood. We can wear mascara on our eyes but not shave?
Who was mattir your wearing mascara?!
ReplyDeleteShmerel
ReplyDeletethere is a interesting letter of the Lubavicher Rebbe with a lot of comments on this teshuva.
His FIL asked him to write it, in the Berlin years, there are some strong questions there
Shmeryl Tzeitelbeitel
ReplyDeleteActually mascara and hair coloring agents are assur for men...according to many on the grounds of 'Lo Silbash'...and midoraisa according to them.
How would R. Chaim know that Leibel is a Lubavitcher? Are you saying that he has ruach hakaydesh un ken zei aysshmeken?
ReplyDeleteThe gemurah in daf yomi not to long ago was talking about mascara/eye liner for men and didnt have any qualms with it. perhaps in ashkenaz we dont do this but eye liner was/is common on men in Arab and persian countries.
ReplyDeleteכידוע שהגרח"ק בקי מאד בכל חדרי התורה.
ReplyDeletefact checker,
ReplyDeleteNot Tel Talpios, but Vaylaket Yosef.
Just so much for the facts.

Facts
ReplyDelete"Not Tel Talpios, but Vaylaket Yosef.
Just so much for the facts."
I wrote from my mind, did not check it, I remember that it was rehashed in some European torah journal, a good couple of years ago..

ReplyDeleteAlways wondered, Mishna in Moed Katan says if one doesn't trim his beard before yontof, it is considered nivul. For that reason, they forced people to do so, by assuring shaving on yontof. How do chassidim learn this Mishna?
