in what ways have you improved your avodas hashem from being inspired by his legacy?
ReplyDeletewho's legacy? and why do I have to tell you in what ways I improved? who are you?
ReplyDeleteThis entire site is a tribute to Zalman Moshe. Especially the mortar guns in the comments.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: What is bothering you? Is it that there is a post about a Chosid? Is it that there is a post about a Chosid by someone you don't respect? I simply can't ascribe any other motive to you than Sinah?
ReplyDeleteyou should have posted as well that it was Rav Moshe Soloveichik 70th Yahrzeit. Before coming to America he was a Rov in Chasolovitch which was chabad town but they always had non chosid rov you will do some research and you will you will find what I am writing about.
ReplyDeleteyes, we know all that.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned RZM because I had just read about him and remembered the day.
For the uninitiated, could you please let us know what R"ZM's family name was?
ReplyDeleteהיצחקי
ReplyDeleteWhat will your legacy be, tzig?
ReplyDeleteyou first
ReplyDeleteHis name in Russia was Hayitchoki? Does that mean that he was ben achar ben from Rashi?
ReplyDeleteyes, that was their mesora
ReplyDeletenot BAB, since Rashi had no sons, but from the RaSHBaM
Tzidkaso oimedes la'ad
ReplyDeleteHirshel, that "ben achar ben" was intended as a joke.
ReplyDeleteI'm suspicious of people that claim yichus going back to the hoary past. Why would Rashi's descendents take the name of Rashi's father rather than that of Rashi himself. The family name Tribush (or Trivish, Dryfus, etc.) are mentioned in Minhagei Vermaiza as being descendents of Rashi. I never heard of the name Haytzchoki as a family name of Rashi's descendents. If someone knows of a source please let me know.
Sounds like a bubbe maisa - I could imagine what RZM would have had to say if someone else had claimed such a yichus, being the sharfer that he was.
תאות רשעים . . .

ailemesher: this is a yichus zalman moshe gave over to his children, it does not have any current documented source. just a family mesorah
ReplyDeleteAnonymous. I certainly was aware of R' Moshe's Yohr Tzeit, and I mentioned a little torah from him on my own blog, and also reminded R' Telsner from Chabad about this on Shabbos, but I don't expect Tzig or R' Telsner to post or speak about it! Today is the Sfas Emes's Yohr Tzeit. I am sure someone will talk about it, but if Tzig doesn't I guess you'd require him to as well?
ReplyDeleteWhat is bothering you about R' Zalman Moshe? Surely it's a nice thing for the Rubin boy (okay, I know his sister) to write about their Zeyda and/or for Tzig to mention it? The Rubin boy, as I understand it, has a keen interest in genealogy, and has unearthed a few distant relatives in his travels.
R'Berel Shvarstsman, s-i-l bezivug rishon of R'Aharon Kotler and father in law to one or more Roshei Yeshivas BMG and father of rosh yeshivasLakewoodEast was a cousin once removed. His mother was a first cousin
ReplyDeleteIt's quite interesting, b/c RZM's talmid - R' Mendel Futerfas - was also from tze'etzaei R"T (and was niftar on his yartzeit - 4 Tamuz).. So they were related apparently.
ReplyDeleteThere's a beautiful story R' Yoel tells, how as a youngster in Tel Aviv, he asked RZM how to write a pan to the Frierdiker Rebbe (this was b'chayav). The question was a simple technical one. But RZM told him to come to his house, and sat by the table mit an erenstkeit, while every additional word he'd write "ana l'orer etc.." he started crying "ploch'en".. That was R' Yoel's education to PaN writing..
isaac, your blog is so aptly named. comgratulations on its opening.
ReplyDeleteAn Ailmisher
ReplyDeleteYour pilpul is too weak to refute a kabula of a family, maybe the family had a written Yichus Letter till Rashi and it vanished in the USSR
Alright, as long as he didn't claim that he's descended from Tosefos.
ReplyDeleteacording to r berel wien (and others ) all askenazi jews are rashi einiclach...
ReplyDeleteThanks Shmuel.
ReplyDeleteTziki
ReplyDeleteWhere did Wien Write it? it is a interesting observation, since a lot of Ashkenazi jews are from Inquisition refugees from Spain, Portugal which was sefardic
your welcome isaac
ReplyDelete1) i heard him mention this at a shiur
ReplyDelete2) its basic math...make a heshbon how many decendants after a 1000 years...
3) if one is sefardi it doesn't count...many askenyazy jews are partly 1492 refugees...rav wein ,the oruch ha-shulhan etc...
4) rav wein is a nephew of rav tzodek ha cohen...
so was reb saul lieberman of JTS
ReplyDeleteskip the "reb"
ReplyDeletejts=kfira
But Saul Liberman was no Kofer, I don't believe that if someone is employed by a house of Kefira, you become a kofer? Reb Moshe was against it, but reb Saul knew his ways in torah too, give him so much credit.
