Shluchim who went from the frying pan to the fire. A few weeks ago we lost Reb Shlomo Matusov. Now Reb Nissen, who was in Casablanca for the first decade or so with Reb Shlomo, has left this world. In 1960 he was sent by the
Rebbe to Tunis and basically stayed there for the rest of his life, despite his failing health.

Living in yehoopitsville for the sake of one's rebbe is a narishkeit, and those who believe in it should get little credit for sacricing for their beliefs. Tunis had many thousands of Jews at that time, and still has a Jewish community today. I guess that anything out side of Lakewood is not worth your time.

There is too much nonsense here to comment on and hardly anything here deserves a response. Just note I did not mention anything about anyone being uniportant--Tzig fabricated that issue. The fact is, given his hatred for anyone not Chabad, he hates everyone in Lakewood. Look at his posts about Lakewood and its Roshei Yeshiva--including R' Aharon. my only criticism of tsig is that when he writes nice things about his group or negative things about haters he knows that he will provoke a sea of hatred from the likes of hymie and the infamous anonymous.( i still dont see what makes them upset - do they expect him not to praise the hashkofo or rebbe he chose to follow and to agree with all the hatred?) so he should either not provoke them or not print the venom which he provoked.

I just don't see what the big deal is. People fight for what the want, for what they believe is right. Statistically, living in Kan Tzivo is tremendously more dangerous then living in Tunis.

I hope you guys realize one thing: Tens of Thousands of Jews upped and left these "peaceful places." They had been living there for 2000 years yet saw reason to stay. Yes, I know you'll say they overreacted, easy for you to say 40 years later. The ones that stayed were mostly those that could not leave; the poor and the elderly.
The hate towards Lubavitch distorts your view towards everything, even a noble life of teaching Torah and saving Yiddishkeit.

Nobody is belittling his great merits. It is very nice that Russians went to Morocco and Tunis and taught locals how to remain Jewish. But none of them got shot in process, while plenty of yiddelech got shot in Kan Tzivu; now what ?

In regard to the safety of Tunis - we have a non observant family friend who travels to Tunis on business. He doesn't dare to visit Shuls or identify as a Jew because he feels that is is too dangerous.
All of this is besides the point - Rabbi Pinson and his family brought Jewish life and hope to the Jews of Tunis at great personal sacrifice. As a family member, I am aware of numerous death threats and incidences that occurred over the years -yet this never deterred the Pinsons from bringing Torah observance to Tunisia.
Help me understand what the difficulty with this is? Clearly - Rabbi Pinson's lifestyle is out of reach and beyong the understanding of most of us. Nevertheless, we can value the devotion and sacrifice of a fine man, recognizing that perhaps we would not choose or survive such an ordeal. The ultimate commentary is on our commitment, and our Ahavat Yisroel - certainly not Rabbi Pinsons!
I personally appreciate the sacrifice a brilliant doctor or lawyer makes when he stays up late into the night--even early into the morning--learning so that he can know the Torah cold, sacrificing physical comforts and pleasures of this world for the next.
But that is just me.
Kiruv in Tunis is a big thing, but let's not forget what is ikkar.
I personally only know one lawyer who really kills himself this way. A young guy, lives in Lakewood, working as in-house counsel for a large real estate company. Why aren't there more of those?
You don't have to shlep to Tunis or the Bermuda Triangle to do Kiruv to be a hero. You can stay up in the Beis Medrash, fighting against the lures of materialism, vanity and superficiality (not to mention exhaustion) and bask in the glory of the Torah.

I don't know if we have to venerate someone for choosing a certain lifestyle. Why is there a community in Tunis? Why have THEY not moved? There are a lot of gedolei acharonim--I can think of two of the top of my head--who maintain that "kiruv" should be done in the beis medrash, not by mingling with the those who need help and running after them. Even though the impact would be less in numbers, the eichus would mean alot more this way. I know the rebbe disagreed with this, but I don't think he was in the majority with respect to his kiruv initiative.

what an insane comment. we're speaking of a community that's been there for 200 years, if not more. There was no reason to move when he arrived, and many couldn't do it even if they wanted to. So we should allow thousands of Yidden to go without Chinuch and other necessities just because you can't be bothered to leave your Bais Medrish? Would you say the same if it was your family stuck there?!
I would maintain the position of many gedolei acharonim who don't think much of your question.
