Saving Torah is most important?

I saw this yesterday in a new sefer on Reb MD Weissmandel, put out by a einikel. It has original droshos and new bits of info. They have 2 articles of Nisan Gordon in the Moment (a Yiddish newspaper in that era) who interviewed him in the hospital before his passing. In the Moment, they also have a article by Reb Lazer Wiezel, (it's probably Eli the one and only Auschwitz survivor...) they hide it .... in the copy you see that he cried about the shas that was printed in 1944 by the US Vaad Hatzalah organization and the money it took to print could have saved Jews - even that late. I heard this legend and hearsay forever  - that he was mad at RAK for that - I never wanted to believe it but now I see... look at what Reb Reuven said on that shas! Even though I think that according to dry Halocha he was not too wrong....saving Torah is above all..... (It seems like this was said at a Nitra Yeshiva dinner in 1956, shortly before his passing, when Hungarian Jews were waiting to get over the border and into safety during the revolution there. - HT)

An historic letter from Reb Shulem Fogel, legendary gabbai of the previous Belzer Rov, zt"l to the "Iron Lady of New Square," Rebbetzin Traneh Twerski, o"h, wife of RYY of Skver, and mother of the current Skverrer Rebbe shlit"a. Traneh was the daughter of Reb Pinches (Pinye'le) Ostiller, HY"D, who was married to a sister of the Belzer Rov, a daughter of Reb Yisocher Dov of Belz, zt"l. This was the time of '56 Sinai Campaign and she was concerned about her uncle's well-being. It seems like she wanted him to leave Israel and travel to Europe until it all blows over. Reb Shulem writes that the Ruv's family was sacrificed in Poland during WW2 for Klal Yisroel, and that during the war the Ruv always thought about the Klal, and not about his personal well being. Yes, I know, many of you don't read Yiddish and feel left out. Believe me, I do it out of love, of Yiddish, that is. I bear no ill will to you non-Yiddish speakers and readers. I did give you a basic idea as to the contents of the letter, so cut me some slack, will ya?

More Good Listening - Courtesy of that 1956 Igud Conference

The Ponovizher Rov speaking at that same Igud HaRabbonim Conference that we brought you Reb Mottel Gifter, Iyar, 5716. A nachas to listen to. No yelling or screaming or overannunciating words. Just good talk and a strong message b'darkei noam. What surprised me somewhat was his point that Daas Teyreh and Yiddishkeit come from Yeshivos, and the proof he brings from a story with the Kovner Rov. I would've figured that him being a Rov, that he would be of the same opinion that Reb Moshe Feinstein was said to be of, namely that the fact that Roshei Yeshiva, and not Rabbonim, became the face of Yiddishkeit in America, was a turn for the worse, to put it lightly. That was not the way it was in Der Alter Heim, said Reb Moshe, and nor should it be here. But that ship has long sailed, and there's no bringing it back. I guess being a Rov and Rosh Yeshiva, the PR favored the Rosh Yeshiva side to him after WW2.
