I have a Percowitz in my family tree from White Russia and always wondered why my great aunt pronounced it "Pertzovitch".

why wonder? that's probably how all "Itch" is pronounced in Russian. Like Moshkovitch, Berkovitch, Pertzovich. In Polish it becomes ic or itz.

Is it this Percovich family?

Shiurei R' Nochom is his sefer on Shiurim.
Mammish was a genious.

R' Shmuel Berenbaum Rosh Yeshivas Mir was very very close with him.

He died pretty young.

Take care.

Hirshel: To my knowledge it is not.

how does Sudilkov get to White Russia?

The shmuah is that the late Ponovizher Rosh Yeshiva didn't attend his Levaya because RNP attended a farbrengen with the Rebbe and also had a long Yechidus.

I think the derivation of the name is Peretzovich - son of Peretz - like Davidovitch (Davidowitz) = son of Dovid, un azay vayter.

I was wondering vos eppes all of a sudden such a Litvishe post. But I guess his zechus of having likutei sichos and a yechidus עמדה לו לזכות לזה הכבוד........

Oops - that should be עמדו לו לזכות לזה הכבוד.

R' Nachum is son-in-law of R' Chaim Shmulevitz. Am I fanticizing, or did I once read in a book by Volpo that R' Nochum once went for dollars by Rebbe?

Hirshel Tzig - הירשל ציג said...

maaravah

Reb Nochum passed away before the whole "dollars" started. I do believe that he was in Yechidus and by a Farbrengen. אזוי ליגט מיר אין קאפ

R' Nachum passed away in 1986, the year rebbe started giving out dollars.

Anonymous said...

nevertheless I thik you're right about R' Nochum not going for dollars, but there is a story in Volpo's book.

Hirshel Tzig - הירשל ציג said...

I thought it was earlier, I must've been confusing him with his shver, Reb Chaim.

The rebbe sent some people to learn by rav nochum, including cohen (I forget his first name, he is in the mir, a yerushalmi very big iluy he is then one who mark the bechinos, a very big goan) the rebbe sent him there at a young age (13) and he afterwards renounced lubavitch completely.

choose a name.

are you speaking of Reb Gershon Henoch's son?

People who saw serious learning in other places often tired of the childishness, hubris and plain meshugassen.Did you expect them to come back?

you mean there is serious learning in other places outside lubavitch?

The story with the late Ponovezer rosh yeshiva is bul.

I asked some "Alter mirrers" today and said it's not true. They could not confirm if he ever spoke with the Rebbe.

Hirshel Tzig - הירשל ציג said...

YeshivaWorld

maybe the Levaya story is bull, I don't know, but Reb Nochum definitely went to see the Rebbe. It may be that he was influenced by his Talmid HaRav Moshe Havlin, who was from a Lubavitcher family, but wasn't raised as a Lubavitcher. He learned by Reb Nochum and was very close to him. He later went to learn in Lubavitch.

Tzig:I like the way you describe R'Havlin 'Lubavitcher family, but wasn't raised as a Lubavitcher'
Very tactful.

you need to get more sleep, writing at 2am! but who am I to complain? You're helping me.......

You want me to write the whole Parshah? Does it bring Kovod to the Havlin family? I don't think so.
