Hop on!

Today is Beitzah 2. That's Agudah lingo for today the Daf Yomi cycle starts learning Mesechta Beitzah. If you join Daf Yomi today you can accomplish one of two things:

1) You learn a Daf Gemoroh every day, a very worthy deed in it's own right.

2) Even more so, you justify the existence of the Agudath Israel of America, who has few other merits other than "pushing" Daf Yomi, as if all learners are "Agudisten".

I know,I know, they're helping at-risk teens supposedly now, and they help frum Jews wear Yarmulkes in the work place. They also make alot of otherwise unfulfilled rich guys feel as if they're contributing something to society and shaping the Frum world by donating big bucks to the AI.

Noble accomplishments indeed.

I guess Agudath Israel can be added to Tzigs long list of 'haters' and bad people.Keep it up, in the end you''ll end up with only Lubab as the good and everybody else will be on the 'bad' list.Next step is you''ll actually have to move to Crown Heights something you are loath to do for obvious reasons.

why is it the you lubabs condemn all frum yidden and embrace all the frier yidden . Every other group other than chabad is bad for some reason or other.
maybe the old saying is true ?
"chabad is the closest religion to judiasim"

what's with the profanity, O' high and mighty Daf Yomi Lubavitcher?

Hirshel Tzig said...

Daf Yomi is כבודו במקומו מונח, but it seems to me that the rational, intelligent people have totally abandoned this blog, and maybe rightfully so, and all I'm left with is a bunch of fools, many of them "Lubavitchers", who can't understand a SINGLE PARAGRAPH WRITTEN IN 8TH GRADE LEVEL ENGLISH!!!. Do I not write in English here? Is my writing THAT difficult to understand?

Finally.....I agree with you.

Mazel Tov!

You could not have summed up the Agudah any better!

YW Editor.

Hirshel Tzig said...

Oh boy. What do I do now? YW Editor agrees with me. What does that say about me?

Pics of a Siyum Mesechta Sukkoh of Daf Yomi in Kfar Chabad!

I guess Lubavitchers do learn Gemoroh. hmmmmm

Y.W. Editor said...

Give it a few years and the Lubabs will say that they started Daf Yomi.

Just watch....

OR...That the Rebbe Shlita Nasi Dayraynu HIMSELF said 23 years ago at a Fabreingen that the aylem should start learning it.

Hirshel Tzig said...

You mean like every 2 bit Rosh Yeshivah claiming that he built Teyreh in America?

or the Agudah claiming that they represent all Orthodox Jews when all thry have is a few thousand members?

Or like Aish and OS claiming that they started "Kiruv"?

Look, you make some good points about Agudah. But the objection we've got is that you were "makish" that point with daf Yomi, thereby implicating your Daf Yomi in AI's list of "crimes". Keep them separate. Keep Daf Yomi Lechud and AI lechud.

If you want to connect the two, it would be worth it to consider condemning the Agudah on the grounds that they don't really support Daf Yomi. DY grew despite the Agudah RY's, which then wanted to get on the train because it saw how many Jews were boarding.

Peirush: I can safely guess that none of the Roshei Yeshiva who were on the dais at MSG support Daf Yomi in practice within their Yeshivos. To them and their 4 Blatt a Zman, learning Kol HaTorah Kula is for Amaratzim. Their support is hypocritical.

Now that's a Taina worth considering!

Thanks Yehupitz

I remember attending the Siyum HaShas in 5750 at MSG. The Novominsker made the Siyum but he said Hadron Aloch Maseches Nidda, not the whole Shas. Why? because he didn't learn the whole Shas! What a Shandeh!

Agudah gets the blame simply because they suggested it way back in '23(?). In no way do I associate DY with them.

There an anger burning in Lubavitch. It's the anger of jealousy, not only Lubab inc. but also some in the Satmar inc camp. The anger is against a brilliant idea, though of by a young ruv, to bring upon an achdus amongst ALL of klal yisroel through the learning of one blatt a day.The idea, so stunning in its brilliance and yet so simple to implement which can and did bring about achdus and a thirst by even by the average frum ba'al habos to finish Sha's.This Lubab inc. cannot fargin. They even went so far as to 'copy' the idea with a 'limmud Ramba'm yomi' a 'limmud' which is a parroting of Rambam.

I think many honest Lubavitchers would admit to themselves that Rambam Yomi is not the success the Rebbe zt'l and the chassidim thought it would be back in '84.

By the way, the best place in the world for Daf Yomi is not in the shuls but in the yeshivos, where the half or majority of the day of iyun would be nicely balanced with the Daf in 45 minutes. That way, by the time a yungerman left yeshiva, he would have not only a knowledge of "vi tzu lernen", but also "vos he darft lernen".

Chiel:

Daf Yomi is as successful as Rambam, maybe less.

Why do I say that?

Simply because other than uniting Jews and having them be קובע עתים לתורה there's little benefit. Most DY Shiurim are either early morning or after a full day's work. Most people are either in a rush to daven or to get to bed.

The shiur is set for an hour or so. Can every Daf of every Mesichta be finished in that time? And if the Maggid Shiur is a good one, and he can finish it, how much of it is actually understood? Other than the "cute" Agadatos that is.

At least Rambam is learned at your own pace, and especially Perek Echod can be learned very nicely daily. The learner goes home with knowledge that he'll carry with him forever.

I guess if announcing that you "finished Shas" is important to you then DY does have an advantage.

I'm sorry to say that you are unable to see beyond your biases i.e you are not an ish emmes. You have taken a tiny kernel of truth, that sometimes a person is tired and harried before or after work and cannot concentrate well on the blatt, you than turn this into 'most people, most of the time' and reach the amazing conclusion that the 'daf' is worthless. The facts you have made up are just not true, for many people most of the time.
P.S. You are apparently totally unaware of the classic format of a daf shiur if you think that it's not doable in a way that most people will understand the daf most of the time in an hour.Listen to R'Avrohom Karp z''l who said a daf in the Lubavitcher yeshiva in Montreal for 30 years and is available at kolavrohom.com.Listen to R'Mechel Zilber shlit'as tapes, listen to R'Meir Feldbrands etc. Your statements are poshut untrue.Last but not least, this is a cyclical movement, as one moves through the cycle it becomes easier, as one is mesayem shas one time the second time is easier.

Chiel:

I'm definitely NOT an Ish Emes.

you're right about the Maggidei Shiur, they definitely prepare for the shiur, and the tapes are great. The question is what becomes of the attendee of the shiur. How much does he internalize in that 45 mins. to an hour without Chazoroh?
