Tayere Hirsel, ich farstei nit vos ihr zogt.

Re "ס'געווען "הפקר" די וועלט," - I would say that he means that the world was carefree, in other words, that they felt happy and carefree on that day especially, the mood was so joyous, yup, even by the snags!

Re streimlech - it's poshut that he meant the fur hats worn by some Litvise Rabbonim like you mentioned (Netziv, etc.). He explicitly talks about the G-dly faces of the Rabbonim in streimlech with their white beards (derech agav, it seems that streimel was broader term than we think of it today, incorporating various styles of fur hats, not just the typical Hassidic models).

Re saying the kapital Tehillim corresponding to his age - maybe he picked up the minhog from somewhere, lav davka Lubavitch, maybe it is a Sfardishe thing too, he was a safran you said, a librarian, so someone who had a breitkeit, who saw publications, seforim from various types of Yidden, different eidos, maybe he saw it in some minhog book or something, took a liking to it and adopted it. You are talking about a cosmopolitan, very literate man here.

And moh nafshoch, leshitoscho that he was talking about Lubavitchers, so all Lubavitchers wore streimels then??

Sayf kol sayf, I think there is whole pilpul here that lacks what to stand on.

the minhag of women coming in the mens Shul is a old Minhag Ashkenaz, I remember years back someone wrote in the periodical Oir Yisroel that in Viznits Benai Berak in the era of the Imrei Chaim the women used to come in shul Simchas Torah. The Reb Motele of Monsey was denying and give his routine machoa, but after that, in the letters to the editor there was a letter from some vinitzer chosid that claimed that he was there and the facts are correct.

Hirshel,
There was a big Chabad Minyan in Lita, you forget to mention Reb Isser Zalman the FIL of Reb Aron that didn"t let a shtriemel in Lakewood the first few years.

Maybe A Litvak said...

Yup

The first guy to trug a streimal in Lakewood, was actually embaressed to walke in to Beis Midrash with it.

Not to long ago, there were beards in the Lita.

The Alter said that beards were necessary to protect them from the two great dangers of the day: Haskala and Hasidism

Many writers use flowery language in order to bring it more to life, and this writer in particular is obviously trying to do that while describing the festive scene and saintly faces of the Rabbonim.

Probably so they shouldn't feel inferior in their yiddishkeit.

The not having a beard is what saved them

Studying Kabala: read MOAG- the Alter of Slobodka studied.

R' Yeruchem is fahrnumen with Kabalistic concepts.

R' Yisroel, as far as I know, didn't study Kabala.

Anyways, the old 'gleyben, gleybt min, uhber mir fert zich nish ozey' should tell you not to conflate studying it and....

Haskala won by the Chasidim: look what is considered proper leyning.

R' Hirshel highlighted an important issue that is extremely relevant in our times.

We must spread Torah to the uninitiated. It is not enough for a Talmid Chochom to sit in his own 'vinkle;. He must go out and affect the simpletons.

The Litvaks speak from both sides of their, rather large, mouths.

When it comes to chasidim- when Rebbes do things that make no sense to the Hamoyn Am- the standard answer it that in the himlien, the Rebbe's approach is better. Since Rebbe's no best, we can't question them.

Litvaks scoff at that.

Then they switch gears.

When it comes to spreading Torah, even though the 'Daas Baleh Batim' says that kiruv is the way to go- the way to have the most affect on the world, etc. The Litwaks switch gears.

They say that in the pnimius of the inyanim, Torah studied by the Bney Teyreh has a greater affect. Even though we can't see it and our sechel says otherwise.

But we must trust the Roshey Yeshiva's on the posthumous Marans.

Why can't they be consistent?

Whats your message with the megila pesila?

BTW, mussor is all about 'bittul hayesh'; it is all about noticing and realizing ones' fallacies- were you are really holding. In that sense- it is head on frakert from Chasidus

Can you explain where the bitul hayesh of chasidim differ from Mussar?

Not Brisk said...

Anon

I am no expert on Chasidus. However, Mussor is all amount knowing yourself and realizing what the 'yesh' is that needs to be destroyed. Until it is identified, it can not be eradicated.

Mussor also is very against attaining any 'darga' that a person is not holding on. 'Dimyon' is scorned upon.

Therefore, studying and experiencing things that are beyond where the person is holding on- i e, there wasn't enough bitul hayesh that preceeded the avaydah, ia very chumordik aveyrah. (Nadav V'Aveyhu, on their dargah, saw things that didn't comport with their bittul hachomyer)

In Chasidus, there is a mehalach of jumping dagras, etc...

Ask Hirschel Tzig about that.

I find it ironic that the hamoyn ahm reads seforim that discuss certain madreygos, and agavdik, the mechaber says something like ' farshteit zich' that this is only after one got past the first couple of dargos in the Braysa of R' Pinchos be Yair.

Mussor spends a lifetime just on the first dargas

(Even after one is holding by the higher dargas, there is still a strong emphasis on the initial dargus; I don't know if that exists in the same sense- in Chasidus)

Definitely, though with the Hungarians even worse than Lubavitch. Of course it also won by the Litvish:

"the beard is a kabala based custom"

Lo yamush hasefer haTorah hazeh mipicha umipi zaracha.

Torah sh'baal peh was not yet a sefer.

Why don't you tell us the truth, in stead or resorting to Tomim dike ad hominems

You do an excellent job at cutting and pasting. If you have anything substantive to add to the discussion, please do so. The impression that you give, whether you realize it or not, is one of ignorance. Ignoring the subject matter and engaging in mud-slinging is the textbook symptom of lack of confidence or knowledge in your position. Since I am sure that that is not the case, I humbly anticipate your enlightening comments (that I doubt will ever be furnished)
