Paris under anarchy
Youths rampagingno mention of their religion here.
From the AP:
"The violence — originally concentrated in neighborhoods northeast of Paris with large immigrant populations — is forcing France to confront long-simmering anger in its suburbs, where many Africans and their French-born children live on society's margins, struggling with unemployment, poor housing, racial discrimination, crime and a lack of opportunity."
French are still
clueless. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

Good post. No loshen hora! Its remarkable how the media is covering up (by calculated omission of mentioning arab or muslem)in such news casts. Now the media is understanding the rage of these poor imigrant folks...wait a week or two..it'll end up the jews fault somehow some way!
In a strange way it's fun to watch the police there just watch all this happening. Soon Paris will be in flames.....
שה' ישמור
Chevrah, it's no joke, the police seem helpless and Chas Vesholom it could spread to people too.
Paris will be in flames
burn baby burn
Thankfully, Jews have been leaving france by the droves - may they all leave ASAP - I don't understand why any Jew would stay in that accursed land.
And really, has France had a single plosive moment since 1811?
Honestly, their big draw is a stupid antenna - can you explain what makes the Eiffel Tower special? At least Big Ben tells you the time.
France is no different than most of Western Europe. All the nations there have large Muslim and African populations.
Lets not be so fast in judging Europe, what about the US. Bush and Co have still not admitted that there is a serious 5th column problem in the US itself. NYC has hundreds of thousands of people from countries hostile to Jews and still others who have no interest in integrating in American society.
How all this will play out in re certain sectors of the Charedi community is also open to question.
If the average Joe 6 pack identifies turbans , beards robes, strange religions oppression of woman as negative anti-Western manifestations. Where does that leave a chasid with cork screw peyoth, a flying saucer hat who though born in the US speaks English with a strong accent and can not write the language, etc etc.
So perhaps maybe not only French Jews should go to israel, maybe those non assimilated Jews in the US should also think about it.
Question for Zezmir. I take it you are a Lubavitcher Chasid. I recall reading a famous sicha by the Rebbe refering to himself and his rebbetzin and I suppose Mr. Horenstein that their arrival in France in the 1930's served "LeZAREF es haaretz Zarfas (France) (play on words) to remove the klippah of or from Zarfas.
France represented in Chasidic literature the epitome of sexual freedom and vulgarity etc while Germany represented free thinking.
So if things are so bad there as you write, (not a single posative moment since 1811 !!!) how do you read the Rebbe's sicho on France, or was he just referring to the so called Bal teshuvah movement there that impacted on a fairly small number of Jews , mostly Sefardim who came from frum backgrounds prior to their arrival in France.
Hence the question how did the rebbe's stay there impact on France in the long run ?
1) I think Zezmir was refering to politically France hasn't done anything sice 1811.
2) Most of the immigrants may have been traditional or maybe not. The more affluent ones were the ones that went to France, the rest went to Israel.
3) without Chabad taking them under their wing, they most likely end up in der erd.
4) I know about the Novardikker who have the Yeshivah there, but they keep to themselves, I believe.
5) Please do not diminish the great work of Chabad in France, Many hundreds of families have become completely frum through their amazing work, with many marrying off their children, all living in France.
Kurenitzer,
My point was, what has France done to distinguish itself since Napolean's ill fated rise to power?
I am not diminsihing the work of Chabad in France. But they are not the only force working for the spiritual revival of French Jewry.I must add that Rav Gershon Leibman never kept to himself rather most of the Navarodok community are of North African descent. Their schools are Sefardic as are their central yeshiva.
Rav Chaikin (the talmid of the Chofetz Chaim ) and his yeshiva also has done much for Judaism in France, so is the case of rabbi Routenberg's community in Paris. They too have many BT's . In addition modern orthodox intellectuals like Leon Ashkenazi and Andre Neher have done much to spread Judaism in France. So has the modern Orthodx rabbinate (Sitruck and Dr. Sirat among others ) and the National Rabbinical College in Paris.
But alas the vast majority of Ashkenazic Jews and most Sefardim are still alienated from Yidishkeit in France as well.
The rebbe never lived in Australia , Morocco and Canada, yet Lubavitch did more or at least as much there as in France, my question "beibt a kasha "in the real world and more importantly in the metaphysical world of Chassiduth what was the meaning of the Rebbe's sicho. How did his stay in France impact or in his words purify the tumo of Zarfas -France? One must think before offering "skarbova " answers to this question.
It certainly was more than a PR release for the work of Rabbi B. Gorodetsky !
Kurenitzer
you may not consider yourself a Lubavitcher Chossid but you do believe in עפעס העכערס, therefore your asking why the Rebbe said this is somewhat surprising to me.
Also, since when did he mention his brother-in-law mendel Horenstein as being part of it?
I do not have the sicha in front of me , but when I read it it dawned on me that perhaps he was refering not only to himself and wife but also the Horensteins and eperhaps even his grand uncle Reb Mendel and Rabbi Zalman Schneersohn.Of course he meant himslef.
I think the rebbe was refering to Zarfas as a concept not a geographic region. And he was talking about going into the body of vulgarity of the new low culture and fighting the enemy face to face.
And to a certain extent he enjoyed success in this battle .
