Reb Eli Chaim z"l at the Kosel. Notice the Atoroh. The Tallis and Tefillin are still Chabad, though.

Just think of what could have been! E.C. could have been a real asset to Chabad, had he stayed. Why DID he leave? And you may recall this idea (E.C.C. is mentioned towards the end) from the "other" wesbite:
Couldn't bear the Shabsai Tzvi analogies? Can't blame you.If I was a Chabadsker I'd be squirming, to close to home, to much on the mark... Ober......Chabad mont doch EMMES. If you have a true bone in your body, and you read about Shabtai Tzvi you can't deny that hiStory is repeating itself
Come again.... Do you want me to repost the Shabtai Tzvi historical reports so everyone will be able to judge for themselves the analogies to todays messianic Chabad? And I don't wish there were similarities, it's a churban for parts of klal yisroel
Eli Chayim was a paid employee of the Bobover Rebbe, "prparing" his Toras for him. It's that simple. And whatever it takes to keep the boss happy, it it means wearing bling on your Talis, let it be.
let me preface these remarks by saying they are not meant to be critical of Reb E.C. And I hope I an not offensive to his children. Reb Eli Chaim whom I heard speak and observed on a number of occassions was not only a Bobover and Lubavitcher , he was and remained a Yekke. His conversion to chassiduth was a religious one , but the chabad personality never permeated his own person. He adopted the religious traits of a chasid and perhaps even the philosophy of Chassiduth, but his personality was clearly of a Yekke. That friends is also true of Reb Shlomo. Lithuanian jews, galitzianer, Chabad etc all have some general personlaity traits that hundreds of years of cultural breeding created. The Carlebach brothers were permeated by very Germanic personality traits. Decency prevents me from elaborating on this topic.
at first I was sure it was, the Tallis, not the Atoroh, meaning that he bought a Chabad Tallis and put the Atoroh on, but that was with a regular old-style computere monitor. Now I see it with a laptop, an LCD monitor, and I'm not sure, it's tough to tell.
HT, if everyone who isn't lubavitch became bobov and if every chabadsker who found disatisfaction with lubavitch or found more satisfaction with bobov, and they left and became bobover chasssidim wouldn't the world be a better place?
N that depends many times it's the fools that stay and the disoriented ones that have "problems" with certain things going on, so if the fools are the only ones who stay who are we left with?
ht, boy o boy....thats very hypothetical...we have tons of 'good guys', if some can't take the heat why not let 'em stay in the shade under a nice tree(Bobov). i feel your tension...ever try lifting weights?

I don't know for sure why he left, but if Bobov is the alternative then maybe we were overestimating him in the first place----
Do you know why he went to Bobov? Until you know why, you can't look askance...
well then, big guy, why not enlighten us?
I'm asking the same question - I just don't think it has to be written off as a charachter flaw until we know.

anyone, help flesh out this story...a mentch ends up by Bobov in life..whats so wrong over here?
N
you're biased, you live too close....
HT,
are you joking? i don't get it....
Don't you?
That too was not the point, the fact that he went to Bobov, just that he "left" Lubavitch.
