Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser שליט"א

Welcome to the issues Rabbi Goldwasser would like to ingore....

A brief (auto?)biography - priceless!

Normally I'm not into character assassinations just for the sake of knocking people, but I have written about this great injustice in the past. It was done to a Yid who was Moser Nefesh in the Soviet Union, and Davka by a man who calls himself a Rov and a thinker. I will therefore link to this blog and follow the updates closely. I think the Lifchitz family has been wanting to get some kind of closure for some time, and this may be just what they need. I do ask that we keep the comments to the topic at hand, and not turn it into an all-out "Rabbi-hunt."

I'm not sure if he's a BT (he's definitely from out of town) or not but I believe he was originally a Lubavitcher when he was a teenager and then mainstreamed. Because of that I'm surprised that he would be anti-lubavitch. Unless he feels that Lubavitch doen't fit his present image or maybe it's to close for comfort.

I don't think he ever learned in CB but he may have spent some time in Camp Morris as a teenager.

Rabbi Goldwasser has a Lubavitch brother in Pittsburgh, a quiet, unassuming, very learned Chassidishe Yid.

ר' מאטל זאָל לעבען ביז הונדערד און אכטציג איז א חד בדרא. אם שנים הם, הוא מהם - ונפשי קשורה בנפשו מאז ומקדם. עהם העטטע איך א קװיטל גיגעבן.

Nobody in their right mind would have a hava mina to separate R' Motel from Lubavich of those days. This is nasty revisionism, no better then the gniza gesheft. But I'm surprised that a man who managed to fool not one generation of komitetchikes got himself fooled by a smelly snag. Are there no honest translators that a fremder had to be tapped ? Mimeila it's understandable why he wouldn't want the local book-butchers to publish this, but there are some nice and neutral people left ...

i was at one time one of his staunchest supporters and davened in his shul on ave. l
he is a self serving individual who surronds himself with yes men.in reality he is very insecure.
he will support causes that will generate PR.when the novilty wears off ,the cause is dropped.
oh those crocidile tears he sheds at his droshes is a sight to be hold. he has had more people daven and then leave his shul than any other shul in our neighberhood.

i am a very good friend of the lifshitz/ haskelevich families. reb motl trusted goldvasser and by the time he found out about the lie it was too late. he was extremely hurt and upset and tried to call goldwasser to a DT and goldwasser wouldnt respond

I think that Reb Mottel shyichye would have never dreamed that this would be done to him...

Despite the (overly)nasty comments by some, I'm impressed by the achdus expressed here . . .
From my understanding, Goldwasser isn't an out and out misnaged to Chabad, but rather felt that by changing the details, he could make the story more 'universally' acceptable. A Shod.

How can you criticize him ? He davens with a gartel, changed the nusach of his minyan to Sfard from Ashkenaz, what a gevaldige Chossid he is !

A chutzpah of you to knock האדמו"ר מגאלדוואסער! The other week it was ספּינקא and now גאלדוואסער Chassidus. Vos vilst du fun di Peylisher Chassidim ??? Or is גאלדוואסער Chassidus considered American and not Peylisher ?

Snag2

I know a shul on Ave I and E22, where they also changed to Nusach Sfard, and the Rabbi there is such a Misnaged! It's good for business so he changed Nuscho'os.

it seems goldwasser says it was someone from R' Mottel's family that told him to do so.

Nu, maybe he is a Goldvasser Chossid. When you put the gold - gelt - before the vasser (Toyrah), that is a recipe for trouble. A real snag doesn't change his nusach.

Reb Mottel has daughter married to a Litvishe [sic] guy . . . She gave the manuscript to Goldwasser, though I don't think she realized what would happen.

TZIEG stop complaining about facts of life, Goldwasser and your self both know that a very big percentage of book readers dont want to hear or read anything about lubavitch even things that are good or positive in nature, lubavitch itself is the fault of it as the Gemara Senhedrin says, Kach Onshen Shel Badoin Afilu Oimer Emes Ein Shomin LO, (Translation:This is the punishment for the Phonies that even the truth he says he is not listened to.)by claiming leadership on this genration or retroactivly on previous Generations when evry one Knows who the real Gedolei Hador were and they themself wern"t crazy to be considerd Nosi Hador or promoting sifrei Chabad as the real stuff versus all the seforim that coined klall yisroel ,for the last 300 years,as much you will repeat it will turn smart people away even from the good things that lubavitch does, the audiance of Comorade was intended for smart people ,for peace sake dont read it and let there be sholem

wow, I can't believe he's the brother of Rabbi Goldwasser in Pittsburgh! Are you sure?! Rabbi Goldwasser in Pittsburgh is like the most beloved, pious, humble, honest Tsaddik you could ever meet! He's deeply loved and respected by everyone from the Lubavs to the Lakewooders to the Modern Orthodontists...one of the few "real" people who reminds you of the amoliker Yidden from the old maasehs...I had no idea that's his brother. Seriously, man - you sure?

Reb Mottel sheyichye is an old acquaintance of mine from my first days in Moscow. I met up with him again a few times during my 24 month sentence to CH. He was always an unassuming, quiet man - I never knew who he was or what he went through until it was almost time for Reb Mottel's departure to the US (and even then I found out third hand).

Goldwasser is just a hack and a poser, of the type that seems to get fleeting publicity in all parts of the Torah world. (yes, even Chabad is afflicted with a few of these). Still, the seruv needs to be publicized and this new blog is doing quite a service.

Thank You.

I think it is very appropriate to recognize reality rather than contrive nasty rumors about a man no one here knows anything about ("full of crap", "arrogant", "poser," etc.).

The fact is that the story is far more accessible to far more yiddin without making reference to possibly THE most polarizing figure in the frum world in the 20th century. I love Chabad, but I am realistic to know that R' Mottel's story will now be known. And I doubt the Rebbe would care if he is mentioned so long as the kiddush Hashem is apparent to all.

And stop making things up, people. Seriously, who raised you people?

SAB said...

If that "polarizing figure" is not mentioned then the story is not Reb Mottel's story. It is instead a fictional story written by a poser.

>>If that "polarizing figure" is not mentioned then the story is not Reb Mottel's story. It is instead a fictional story written by a poser.

Its not fiction, per se, not does writing a work without attributing certain sayings to a polarizing figure constitute the writer of that work a poser. Please stay away from names and focus on facts.

Mendel the Sheichet said...

hmmm, so maybe I can write a history of the state of Israel and leave out certain "polarizing" figures like Ben-Gurion and Dayan..I mean so long as the story is told what's the harm.

Or maybe let's do it like the Kabbalah Center and teach Torah and Kabbalah but leave out certain "polarizing" figures like G-D, Abraham, Moses, etc. So long as the story is told what's the harm, right?

Or better yet, let's write the story of a Chabad Chossid who was moiser nefesh BECAUSE he was a chossid of the Rebbes of Lubavitch, but leave out the "polarizing" figures like the Rebbes...oh, wait - RDG already did that one, I'll have to come up with my own unique idea.

sab said...

When the subject of the book is so dedicated to the ways of that "polarizing figure," then omitting said figure is a complete falsification of the record.

The name "Schneerson" in the USSR at that time was lehavdil the same as the name "Gotti" (or whoever the gehennom runs the Cosa Nostra) in the US today as far as the perverted Soviet "criminal justice" system was concerned. It was for being in contact with his lehavdil "capo di tutti capi" and carrying out said lehavdil "godfather's" work that Reb Mottel was sent away. Omit that and you've got fiction.

Now, get a life, loserke!

Guravitzer said...

The most polarizing? Which figure in Israel created the frume Haredi political parties which tore the country down the line to the point that money has been voted away and army service is very much on the table?

Anonymous said...

IF you look in the two books you will see that Comrade came out before Gulag so how did he steal and mistransalte from a book that came out after his book came out?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

a friend of motels family said...

shmulik,
the book is not reb motel's story. so much is made up for no reason. this guy goldwasser has to have no respect or regard for emes in order to write it. just a couple of many examples. a whole dialogue between motel and his father is inserted prior to motels imprisonment. his father was dead when motel was very young. why on earth a person for no reason would fabricate falsehood is beyond me. the fiction about motel's first wife assacinated by goldwasser was already mentioned. dont kid yourself that at least its a pirsum.

I don't see the coparison. Its a shame you are not willing to get the point. You are not looking at the issue.

>>Now, get a life, loserke!

I don't know what kind of people raised you, but ad hominum attacks and posts without substance can hardly be confused as argument/ If this is the best you can do, you are clearly not in my league.

Chabad revisionism, lies and distortions aside, that still does not change the facts as to who was possibly the most polarizing individual in the entire frum world in the 20th century. I can easily easily match your rhetoric and hyperbole with respect to that figure, but I have facts and integrity on my side. I would not exaggerate on a thread which castigates a renonwned Rav for inaccuracy, but I guess that is just a matter of taste. Everyone else on this thread clearly does not care about accuracy, per se, but rather about the percieved slight to the rebbe, a "slight" which I doubt he would have concerned himself with considering the dividends (in kiddush hashem terms) it yielded for Hashem. But who cares about Hashem? Not you.

Guravitzer said...

I actually care specifically about accuracy. What the Rebbe did harmed no one. Lakewood didn't change how they run things because of him, Mizrachi didn't, Aguda didn't, unless they copied him which is not polarizing. On the other hand, someone did essentially throw Haredis into the political arena, polarizing the secular Israeli world against them and they have since lost funding and may someday lose the ptur for yeshivah students.

If you would care about accuracy, you would desist from hyperbole and exaggeration and pure speculation. I could easily use similarly inflammatory language with respect to the rebbe, in fact, I could easily support it with facts, but as an individual who actually cares for accuracy (not to mention good taste) I will once again tell you, especially with regards to the rebbe, "Don't go there. This is NOT your strong point."
