Why an MO shul (president) makes a Kiddush

(YI of Boca Raton)

Seen in this week's "Jewish Press": (page 43)

"The whole country is invited to a Grand Kiddush this Shabbos, Parshas Lech Lecha, Nov. 4th, 2006 to celebrate the St. Louis Cardinals World Series Win!!!

Kiddush will follow the Hashkomoh minyan (davening 7:30am) at the
Young Israel of Boca Raton, Florida (7200 Palmeto Circle north)

We would like to thank the cities of San Diego, New York and
Detroit for making this event possible.

Yakov (Jason) Lyons, President"

I guess only the ones that are Makpid on Z'man Tefilloh and daven B'Hashkomoh merit to partake in the Kiddush....

When they have a kiddush to celebrate the Democratic takeover of one or both houses of Congress next Shabbos (Hashem yishmor), then we will know that they have left klal Yisroel.

As it is, this is almost a sick parody of MO and seems to hearken back to an earlier era, when MO meant eating fish in treyf restaurants etc.

MO was never really an ideology; it was all about trying to have your cake and eat it too. In the 60's and 70's it was the best many Jews could do because pressure to assimilate was much greater.

In fact, some of the children of the 60's and 70's MO are Chassidim and yeshivaleit today; others are sincere dati leumi/hardal living in Yehuda veShomron where they are community activists and leaders.

But these baseball kiddush revelers are a throwback and a joke. And why a kiddush in Florida for an S Louis team?

Which is more crazy, making a kiddush for an event that made people happy, or lining up to receive invisible wine from a long dead rebbe?

What do you expect from a shul that has a regular Tanya shiur?

you wake up that early on a Sunday morning just to do this? I'm flattered, really.

I don't spend my evenings drinking vodka, singing Georgian peasant pub songs, while attempting the impossible by trying to reconcile chabad with rationality, so I wake up, with a clear head, quite early.

See what I mean here people? it's not me dredging up old arguments and history, it's guys like snag who continue the fighting.

Hershel, this is a shameful cheap shot here.

1) The Shul isn't making the kiddush, the President is. The President comes from S. Louis (like many people in S. FL, he migrated there from elsewhere), so he is being mishtateif in the simcha of his hometown. I'm not saying that it's a big mitzvoh, but people like you and Itzik are knocking it too much, busy grinding your axes with such enthusiasm.

This Shul is too nice - maybe they should cancel the Tanya class after they see how Lubavitchers, who claim to love all Jews (ha), are attacking them. Maybe someone should direct them to this post. They should not allow the Lubavitcher missionary to conduct his Tanya class there. Let them invite a snag Rav to replace him and teach some Tayreh.

so my team wins I should make a Kiddush too?

Is Chidushei HaGriz Tayreh? what about Sukkas Dovid? Then do you think Tanya is Tayreh?

Is the Rabbi a Radiner missionary for learning Mishna Berurah?

I read the post, and I can't believe my eyes! Here he is attacking the "Godol HaDor", the "RaSHKaBeHaG", and the snags defend him? Can it be?!
