From "baalbatish"

אמאליגע ראשי ישיבות

(before)

(and after.)

You may ask why I make a big deal of something that seemingly means very little, namely outward appearance, especially in light of the fact that the Rebbe, as well, wore modern clothes. The truth is that it does mean little, but why then did they all rush to adapt the "Brisker" look recently, with every self-respecting Rosh Yeshivah growing beards and Peyos like Nachshon ben Aminodov?

Because a Nachson ben Aminodov beard creates a better hadras ponim than a Gadi ben Susi beard.

Ach, this isn't a big deal - this is the litvishe way. Nevertheless, it's intersting to see the two pics side by side. Thanks for posting this inspirational piece! (Seriously)

No story here. Rav Hutner was well aware of the change and open about it. Recent articles about him mention the difference in the look as well.

They all want to be chassidim and 75% of Bnai Tora today are of Hungarian background. Except for the Mir chevra few Litvishe Yiden survived the war.
