Happening Near You

AP photo

A young man in Yaffo yesterday, demonstrating against the ongoing building activity that unearthed kevorim. He seems especially pained by what's going on there, judging from the clenched fist, closed eyes and apparent shouting. These demonstrations have been going on for months now, with activity picking up during bein HaZmanim, naturally. We're not gonna re-hash the issue here, and whether or not anything is being accomplished by confronting the cops and blocking traffic.

In Airmont, yesterday, Lipa Schmeltzer making a Hanooches Eyven Hapin'eh for the expansion of his shul. Yes, Reb Lipa has a shul, and not a small one neither. Some other shuls in the area, South Monsey, would like to have an oylem like he has. And now he's expanding too. You might turn your nose at his crowd and call them "Chassidishe bums" but you know better than to do that. You know that young men from chassidishe backgrounds are very much disenfranchised with the establishment, yet they cannot turn their backs on their culture. They need the vareimkeit and the trappings; without it they feel "goyish." Lipa is one of those who gives it to them. You might say he gives and gets at the same time... There's also a Chabad element to that shul each and every shalisheedes...

And yes, that is a bottle of Smirnoff he's holding there. I have to assume that it's filled with a genuine adult beverage. I'm sure he has his reasons for pouring mashkeh in there, and that this symbolic gesture will bear fruit. We applaud that gesture, much as we applaud what he's doing in that part of town. Just wait and see; he'll be the biggest Rebbe out there one day.

I bet you the Gr"a called the Beshts Chasidim "bums" too. It sounds like Lipa is the functional equivalent of the Besht.

Lipa is from Oberlander opshtam, just that his father was orphaned in the WWII period, so he ended up in New Square (like many Oberlanders, kiyodua that the Skvere Hassidus is like 98% Hungarian, Skverdahely, and very little Ukranian, where Skvira was actually located in der heim).

I heard him asked about that once, and he confirmed it.

So he should go back to his roots and the Shul should daven Ashkenaz.

Talk about yichus and lineage....

The Ukranian goyish figure was 23,674 people from outside Ukraine came to Uman for Rosh Hashana.....official figures.....

Why does Chabad insist on making a minyan there are trying to shlep people away from R' Nachman?

I guess the fact that R' Nachman was a real einikel of the Baal Shem Tov is a lot more impressive that the claim that the Alter Rebbe was a 'grandchild' of the Besht.....

The Alter Rebbe is impressive enough without making outrageous claims that he is the sole spiritual heir to the Baal Shem Tov and everyone else is a poor imitation....

Rav Nachman's koach will continue till Moshiach....

The Rebbe's message is vague and less than 20 years after histalkus there is argument as to whether he believed he himself was mashiach...even those who lived around him for fifty years cannot get his message clear...

R' Nachman's teachings are crystal clear and other than different branches having opinions on how to express it...the message is the same.....

- Shmiras Eiynayim / Kedusha / Mikva
- Emuna peshuta (in simplest form)
- Simcha temidi
- Hisbodedus and talking to Hashem

Lubavitch is actually in big competition with Breslov, so they make a minyan in Uman so that people who have a shaychus with Chabad not leave entirely.

Anonymous said...

Anonymus,
Reb Nachmen was not at all concerned to be the memalai Mokem of the Besht. He had no problen to be a revolutionary with his ideas, He had confidence that you did'nt see by non of the talmidie habesht.
the vort that the alte rebbe is a spiritual was not invented in 770, its a vort from the AR, obviously he felt that his has some connection, you can disagree in a free country. The clarity of the Rebbes Sichas was never meant to compete with reb nachmans, so what Kasha are u trying to cook here? one think is for sure it is clearer then the sipurie maisois... even after Anshins biurim

You are mistaking big time,
Lipa had a grandfather and a grandma living in Willi with a small aluminum shop, he used to Manufacture the "Bekelech" before their was a disposable concept. He was always a Skwerer Chasid then he moved to the Village of Skver, to his sons and a daughter until he died and was buried in Skver. So Lipa is 3rd genaration Skver, I am pretty envious on Skver for owning the Schmeltzer family.

As most of the contemporary rebbes are in fact "komidiantun" so why can't a "Komidiant" become a rebbe ? haynu hach.

Shneur,
even though it is not the topic, but i will answer you here- I HAD NO TIME LAST WEEK- WAS DRINKING AND EATING HEARING.

Russian Chusid ,
Is one child passing away or getting seriously ill not enough? I guess not if its not yours . Is there something in halacha as safek Pikuach nefesh ?

You still never brought me one case even. For mesira they use to kill- IN LITA TOO..

Was Reb Chaim Brisker also from the Litvishe kalim. How about the Vilna rabbinate The Marchesheth ? How about the Kovner rav they were all kalim Right. Why not say that everyone all the rabbinate in Lita were kalim .

Ovade not. But what they are talking about is hateirim if you aloud to do this or not- which a lot of them are mattir. Mesoire it is not.

I guess thats why there are so few Ukranian chassidm left...

Ungefresener Amerikaner! I would like to see how you would look like after 3 Holocausts in 30 years. (pogroms 1918-21, Evsektsya, WW2)

Hoh gefoh. Reb Nachman has liketei mohara"n, endless sichis and toiris, uber, dos alein vaist aliss, that Reb Nachman wanted shmiras einayim, while the pshutei am in Lubavitch chotch have an actual m'halich in chassidus

Russian Chusid,
I have some answers for you. But I refuse to get involved in your name calling and shmutz . Which Russian Rebbe taught you this way of talking ? Ufgefressener chazir you call me and you call yoursef a Chusid !!!! No wonder you don"t say chasid . On a day after Yom Kippur . I just wonder how you talk to someone who actaully did you wrong --- I would not want to be there.
Tzig -- if you print this sort of personal name calling on your blog after Yom hakadosh, I choose to no longer particiapte in this sort of forum and this will be my final communication. Zayt alle gezunt und shtark and call each other "die shenste nemen "

i apologize for using too a shtrke loshon, but:

1)I did not call you a choser-i called you an Amerikaner-it is a big differnce.

2) You might have to apologize to all the kedoishim Ukraine.

a name calling is wrong however, and i agree.

Excuse me, maybe I mistakenly said that Lipa's father shtammed from Oberland where I really should have said the grandfather, or maybe you are talking about another side of the mishpocho, but I heard LIPA HIMSELF say that he stamms from Oberland, so I am not wrong, unless you claim that Lipa made it up out of thin air. I think Lipa knows his ancestry better than you do. Go ask him if you don't believe me.

And maybe tell me that New Square is 98% from Skvira, instead of Hungarian too? Hey, I don't want to buy the Brooklyn bridge, can't afford it, zeit moichel.

Lipa is an Oberlander Yid!

Lipa had an uncle,R'Chaim Schmeltzer, Menahel in Telz Chicago.
Hirshels father learned there.
As I understand it, the Shmetzer boys,R'Chaim and his older brother ,Lipas father were orphaned in the War.
So either the Willy grandfather is from Lipas mothers side OR the grandmother remarried after the War and this was a step grandfather.
Anyone know?

Lipas grandfather stems from Paksh, but they lived in a little village close to it. But after the War he warmed up to the old Skverer. I am not denying that Skever is 99.99 Oberland Starting by Rav Neuscloss/Serdehali that brought his yeshiva to the Tisch in Willi, he even pushed him to say Torah by the Tisch, Dayan Unger of Kopovar,Gabai Unger of Kopovar. Shoproner Rov etc...

I have to express my outrage at the scurrilous attack of a so called Russian Husid against Reb Schneur. Tell me- is there anyone on this blog who has been more concerned about proper respect for the Kedoshim than Reb Schneur? It is really outrageous to see the .Russian Husid clothe himself in righteous indignation at the imaginary sin of insulting the Kedoshei Ukrayne.
Reb Schneur can defend himself but most students of Hassidism know that before Communism and the pogroms Ukrainian Hassidism was already in a state of serious decline. Hassidism in Ukraine was falling apart long before the Bolsheviks and the terrible killings of 1917-21.Does the Russian Husid truly believe that any Jew, let alone Reb Schneur, would take satisfaction in the decline of ukraynishe Hassidus as a result of the atrocities of the Germans and antisemitic goyim? That's what Russian Husid seems to be saying. It's really outrageous. Umesaymin betov. Have a freylechen yontev.
