דער ביאליסטאקער מגיד האלט א רעדע

ס'איז "צוקער זיס", האט מיר דער וואס האט מיר געשיקט די לינק געזאגט, און קיין אנדערע וועג צו באשרייבן איז נישט דא. This is just more of what we've had in the past and no longer do. The maggid who entertains and gently chides.

Part I

 Part II

"This speech was probably delivered at a wedding or sheva brachot between 1945 and 1948. Rabbi Rappaport praises the parents of the newlywed couple for giving their children a Jewish education. He criticizes American Jews who do not provide their children with a Jewish education, since they believe that this will prevent their children from succeeding in American society. He mentions the concentration camps and stresses the need for a Jewish homeland in Eretz Israel, and concludes with the need for the Messiah."

A bio of Rabbi Rappaport

A blip of Rabbi Rappaport being maspid Reb Meir Simcha of Dvinsk

I heard he once gave a shmuz in elul, simply repeating 1 possuk or maamar chazal over and over again with the mussar niggun. To powerful effect.

Its a false description to say he
"stresses the need for a Jewish homeland in Eretz Israel, and concludes with the need for the Messiah".
He highlights the uniqueness of meshiach and mocks the minute aspirations of the Zionist

ah broch,

"דעם מגידס וועסטעלע, קנעפעלט זיך פון לינקס צו רעכטס! וויי צו מיינע גיביינער"

you must have forgotten that pictures in those days were developed from a negative which if you turn upside down will produce that result.

Hirshel Tzig - הירשל ציג said...

I don't think that the negative was flipped in this case. Everything else seems normal.

Beautiful. i would have loved to hear him as a baal tefila. What a slice of history. Was it Rav meir'l Premishlaner?

I agree with hirshel! If it would of been flipped, than he would of stand up side down on his head! unless he was also a ראש ישיבה
meaning his ראש was the ישיבה
in that case maybe it is flipped! וצ"ע

Hirshel I disagree, unless there was a particular side one wore his pocket watch.
How else can you tell?

He was the originator of the beautiful story of the forsaken tallis (now made into a moving Yonason Schwarts song)

An honor to be mentioned here, but
I'm just reporting the news :-)

mentioned on that page who donated
the recording and contributed the bio

I sent that picture of Rabbi Rappaport to B. Amsel at Kevarim.

It was taken at the wedding of my 1st cousin twice removed (my grandmother's 1st cousin) in Washington Heights in the 40s.
