זכרונות של הגה"ח ר' ישראל (טעפליקער) אולידורט ע"ה

Reb Yisroel was a Skverrer/Rachmistrivker Chossid who left the Soviet Union in 1971 and passed away in 1994. He authored the sefer מבט המצוות. His eynikel is the well-known Chabad researcher (FLOABT) Reb Dovid Olidort. His connection to Chabad started  - like many others - with his children learning in Chabad underground Yeshivos in the USSR because that's all there was. He was "לאו דוקא" a Lubavitcher Chossid, even later in life. It's interesting how the Rebbe encouraged him to publish record his memoirs, even if it does highlight the work of others than Lubavitch in the USSR. Many thanks to his eynikel Reb Dovid Olidort of Crown Heights for sending us this treasure.

 

Did all yeshivos decide not to take the Gruss/BJE/UJA money in 1971?

On Friday we discussed the The signed proclamation of several Rabbonim not to partake of the monies that Mr. Joseph Gruss arranged for Yeshivos and other mosdos to get from the UJA's BJE. These 2 pages beg to differ. They say that only the YRSRH of WasHeights refused it. And that the others took it with both hands and even thanked Gruss & Co. in the NYT. So who's telling the truth here? If Rav Moshe Feinstein would have signed such a declaration I don't think the Yekkes would be pounding their chests so. Is it just misinformed, or is the proclamation that we brought not true? Or is it somewhere in the middle? I thank an anonymous reader for sending this in.

 It's been discussed in the comments for some time. One commenter was kind enough to send me the כתב יד to prove his point. I'm a little perplexed by this letter, since we all know that the Joint and the Federation are MAJOR supporters of VERY Charedi mosdos until today. Judge for yourselves.
