די מצב אמאל

(די אלטע זיצען אין שול, נאר קיין יוגנט איז ניט דא)

As described in the words of Yom Tov Erlich, z"l.

I see that for some reason he blames the Haskoloh only, why no introspection?

Why only sitting Shivah and tearing Kriah?

That's a powerful poem. Thanks. Where did you get it from ? Did he make it into a song? He was a song writer and a poet ? Maybe you can give some more background on him.

Yom Tov Erlich was a Stoliner Chossid from Vohlin. He spent part of WW2 in Samarkand with Chasidei Chabad (amongst others) and left with the Eshalonen to Poland and on to America.

He composed the lyrics to his songs, although most of the tunes were either take-offs on classical music, or Stoliner Niggunim.

more to come....

I see again that he was a powerful writer. Yasher kayach.

I do want to comment re "Why only sitting Shivah and tearing Kriah?" and the related words by YTE. I wonder how often actually people sat shiva just for children who went off the derech/were farfirt by haskolo, as opposed to ch"v cases of shmad R"l. Did people actually do that or is he just or mostly using poetic license with that ? I suspect the latter. Maybe Kurenitzer can weigh in on that.

Also I am curious re his use of the word spodik, as opposed to streimel, etc. Was that due to his Vohlin'er roots ? Kurenitzer ?

THE LAST ONE IS NOT A YTE SONG!

in Vohlin they wore Shtreimlach, those few who did, mostly Rebbes and their children. Until Today Stoliners for the most part wear hats on Shabbos, unless you have a special dispensation from the Stoliner Rebbe, like if your father wears one or you're fom a Yerushalmi family.

"THE LAST ONE IS NOT A YTE SONG!"

Where is it from then?

It's an old song, I don't remember from whence, I'll try B"N to find out.

I second the request for translation. Forgive us former reform Jews who can only read Hebrew, but have no clue what it means. Oh, that is, read HEbrew with vowels :)

I'm working on it, Tamara. It's just that translating poems is not my thing.
