The question is: can he - young ברוכי - lay claim to the throne, since his zeide's claim to the throne of Munkacs was only since he was married to the daughter of the Munkatcher. Once he married his second wife do the descendants of wife 2 still have some sort of claim? Or do they need to suffice with the Pshischa/Biala/Partziva dynasty? Maybe Dayan Rosenberg of recent Bobover din Torah fame can answer that... But in any case it's nice to see a young ד"לי kid being educated about his ancestors, and not just about RAYHK etc. And it seems like he enjoys playing ball and washing dishes more than being a Rebbe, as any kid would. Remember when we ran the story about the Di Tzeitung airbrushing Madame Clinton out of their situation room photo back in 2011? Remember what kind of hellstorm that created? And how they had to apologize to the Western world? I even called up publisher Reb Albert Friedman to apologize for all the heartache I caused him! It turns it may have all been for naught, and that Mr. Friedman really didn't have to airbrush Mrs. Clinton in the first place. But it took a so-called "Maskil" like Pappenheim to bring this to light. Pappenheim was up until a few short years ago a major player in the קנאי camp, but it seems like all those interviews and meetings with the more modern and even irreligious elements in Israel took its toll. Today he's not so sure whether the ways of תולדות אהרן וכדומה are just and sane. But what do you expect from a man for whom the blood of German Jews flows? Toldos is but two generations in his family, German Orthodoxy has much stronger roots.

It takes work and concentration, and maybe even an accounting degree, to keep track of all the Ruzhiner Rebbes before the war. Like to know that Reb Moshe'nyu, despite being a Boyaner Rebbe, was not a Boyaner Eynikel. He was a Husyatiner who married a Boyaner, and was Reb Menachem Nochum, son of Reb Yitzchok's son-in-law. In other words he was the Lemberger's nephew. Today, after Hitler ימ"ש was done, that job is - unfortunately - alot easier. RAYF was the third son of the holy Pachad Yitzchok of Boyan, grandson of the holy Ruzhiner. RAYF was a Karliner and Tchernobler eynikel as well, his mother being the daugter of Reb Yochentshe Rachmistrivker, and his grandmother, the wife of Reb Avrohom Yaakov Sadigerrer the daughter of Beis Aron. He was known as a great Ohev Yisroel and Baal Tzedokoh where no Jew was turned away empty-handed. A short biography of RAYF can be found in אלה אזכרה ח"ג pages 28-31.

Seems to me that the day is commemorated more so to make money for institutions that carry his name, than to honor his memory, connect to him, and follow in his ways. The dinners, the countless number of booths collecting money. But to each his own. I won't tell his adherents how to do it.

Lang lebe der Kaiser!

My good buddy the scholar Josh Harrison בעמ"ס Chakira Blog mentioned to me today that he wanted a good picture of the late great Kaiser Franz Josef I יר"ה, ז"ל. He wants to be a "good Austro-Hungarian patriot," he says. The Kaiser was a great friend of the Jews, and not for nothing did the number of Jews under his rule grow from 700,00 to 1.225 Million. They simply wanted to live under his protection. How right he is! Where else do we hear people telling jokes and anecdotes a hundred years after a man passes on? You ever heard the one about the Polish king? me neither. But we all know the joke about the Kaiser hearing the news of his imminent arrival in town in the Mikveh. So I decided to join his new Kaiserphile movement. I printed out the picture you see above on my printer that's at the end of the cartridge and hung it up on my office wall. Not very glamorous, the office. I know. So there. I'm now a proud member.

But what I can tell you is, if you do read this read the last page where they discuss the Munkatcher Rov's son-in-law and successor, the late Reb Burechel Rabinovitch of Munkatch. Those of you know the history may not be surprised about what you read, but for the novices among you it may come as an eye-opener.

Attorney and activist Mrs. Ruchie Freier takes time out her "azoy bizi" schedule and visits Rabbi Yoeli Roth's Yeshivah. The haters and those looking for controversy and/or reasons to hate seem to have found one. Vos heist! a woman speaking to bochurim?! What will they do next, have co-ed classes? Then those girls will put on tefillin, of course. You can tell from the body language, the twisting of the beard, that both Rabbi Roth and his colleague are a bit uncomfortable, but heck, so would I! But the lads sure seem to have enjoyed their minute with the lady!

The issue of OTD = Off The Derech - kids is unfortunately a common discussion in many a household around town. Go back to yesterday's blog post if you doubt what we're saying. Or to last week's screaming match in a Meah Shearim shtiebel. No neighborhood, no chassidus, no kehila, no matter how insulated or isolated, no matter how high the walls or how many internet takonos,  is pure - did you hear the cries of the Lakewood Satmar dayan? He was clueless as to how to react to chilul shabbos in Lakewood by frum kids, he was just thinking about chiyuv to be mocheh. But he's an oldtimer, what more can we expect? The Monsey Rebbe's view is "out of sight out of mind. Just forget about them. He claims His grandfather the Ahavas Yisroel and his father had to deal with their own family members, and they did it the same way, ignoring them. It's a strange way to remember a zeide who passed away when he was 15, to remember his grandfather who was famous in the whole region for the big Ohev Yisroel in such a way ; sounds like selective memory. But maybe he's right?

In this sefer,written by the Rebbe Reb Mendele Radziminer, he writes that you should never ever give up on you son, do whatever it takes to keep him close, since his neshamah will one day hear the Kol Koreh for teshuva, like the Toldois Yankev Yosef says in the name of the Besht. Moreover, in a more "Rebbishe" way, what he says is that by the father putting all of his soul and energy here in Olem Hazeh into educating his son, that will wake up the Isaruso del'yalo of his father in Heaven, the father of rachmunis , to pity his soul and give him a ruach Tahara, and he will still become a lamdan and a tzadik. And I VOUCH for the father, says Reb Aron Mendel, that it will be so. This is a view that has to be publicized...
