in 1957 there would not be 10 people who believed in הקב"ה were it not for ------------

These words were said in פרשת בא, תשי"ז. Many of  you may have heard it over the years, but figured it was hearsay, or exaggerated to a certain extent. But here it is. שווארץ אויף ווייס.

"מי אני ומה אני to admonish the Jewish people." But I cannot be silent, being that I am the only one - there is nobody else to assist me. If not for the Satmar Rov saying it again and again, reprimanding the Jewish people, "there would not be a minyan of Jews who believe in G-d."

Now, if you ask a Satmar talmid he'll tell you that the Rebbe zichroyne livruche means to say that all Jews who did not believe like him didn't believe in G-d fully, because they were tainted by heresy. Namely ציונות. So it's not such a major statement. Kind of like the vort from Reb Chaim Brisker: נעבאך אן אפיקורס איז פארט אן אפיקורס. I suppose we can count the Brisker Rov and his sons, and Reb Amrom Bloy in his minyan, since they were all still alive. Other than that all the few hundred Edah'nikkes and Toldos Ahron'ers would also not have been clean and pure. Yossel Ashkenazi doesn't make the cut, in my opinion, either. Nor does any of the tier 1 gedolim who lived in Eretz Yisroel in 1957. Like the Tchenibner Rov and the Gerrer Rebbe. You can assume that he waited until the passing of the Chazon Ish a few years before, and the Belzer Rov the previous summer, to make such a statement, otherwise the world would be up in arms. So to be fair let's say that he's only counting those who were alive at the time. Those who passed away already didn't need him to teach them right from wrong. There would less than ten true G-d fearing Jews alive in 1957 were it not for him making his points over and over again. The late Ponovizher Rosh Yeshiva (d. 2002 2001) like to say that he always looked over his shoulder to see what the Satmar Rov was saying, to keep him from going overboard in his quest to juggle the issues that Haredi Jewry faced in the Holy Land. But it seems like that didn't suffice for the SR.

So I ask my many Satmar friends here: did the SR mean this in a literal sense? that all those who are tainted by ציונות - vote in elections, take Government money, etc. - do not believe in G-d? and if he wasn't being literal what else falls into that category? What else did he say that he didn't REALLY mean?

How the holy Sochatchover celebrated... 100 years since the Balfour Declaration

Hirshel:

I know real Lubavitchers aren't into Zionism too much, but here's my 2 cents.

Rav Yehuda Mamlek, one of the חשוב'ע סאכאטשאווער תלמידים, writes in אביר הרועים that the holy שם משמואל was very excited upon hearing about the declaration of Lord Balfour stating that the British Government appropriates Eretz Yisroel for עם ישרא-ל. A Meeting was called by the שם משמואל to get orthodox עסקנים and גבירים to buy land in ארץ ישרא-ל to build שיכונים and ישובים in the new land. At the event he showed them a אבן עזרא in מגילת אסתר saying that certain גאולה'ס have to happen when you see a sign from Hashem that the time has come. At the same time we had the holy Munkacher Rov זצ"ל calling the declaration בעל פעור etc.... נוסח אונטערלאנד - A place that was (in)famous for name calling. The Munkatcher's opposition didn't stop the train and the vision of the שם משמואל succeeded. One hundred years later and we now have almost a million Jews learning and davening in Eretz Yisroel , while several more millions are saved from definite assimilation.  Obviously this does not play well in certain circles, you know who they are, who are blindfolded to reality. Not being comfortable going after the שם משמואל they'll kill the messenger, so to speak, which in this case is Rav Mamlek. That's fine.  But we have now a new letter from Rav Michoel Forshlager,  a סאכאטשאווער תלמיד (kosher in סאטמאר because he once glanced over at their side) vouching for Rav Mamlek's גדלות and honesty. So now we're in kind of a pickle... Their next move to discredit these facts will be to show that there is a letter from the שם משמואל against מזרחי, and Zionism, which is also part of their tactic that whoever disagrees with their philosophy, is on the same page with Ben Gurion on עקירת הדת. even though this plan for building the ישובים was to build חרדי ישובים against בן-גוריון ... but they don't care for the facts.... I hope my point is clear enough.

רוח הקודש פונעם געררער רבי'ן דער אמרי אמת זצוק"ל

Reb Hersh:

In today's קנאות era where the trend is to follow whoever can produce better curse lines on Israel from Shmuel Auerbach's movement to hamodia editorials, these Rebbes like Reb Avrohom Mordechai of Ger's views of pro State are yesterday's style.  No customers for it.  They just don't sell. In the book ימי מגורי he recalls what Reb Avrohom Mordechai said from tehillim before the creation of the State, when things looked very bleak, mamesh prophecy on the new country,  and he saw a big yom tov coming. I'm not so sure it shtims with your Rebbes' views, both RYY and the Rebbe, but it's always good to stick it to the "kanoyim."

The little Reverend in New London, CT who stood up to the greatest (maybe a bit out of his league...)

This week (today, actually) starts the whole Yom HaShoah-Yom HaZikaron-Yom HaAtzmaut trifecta. Which makes this the season for discussions about Zionism, etc., I thought this letter might amuse some of you - and maybe make some of your bloods (sic) boil...It seems like the good Rev. Manchester took the weight of the world on his shoulders and decided to fight back! Starting with the good Rev. Bloch himself.

State of israel's war on hashem - hirshel tzig

Received via e-mail:

An answer to blogger hirshel tzig's email. Ha-gra הגר׳א. The Yemenite children which the state kidnapped.... Why the blogger is a goat and not a sheep... Had gadya

[what this is referring to is an email I received from youtuber "yoshcC" who regularly uploads recordings, both audio and video, from one Rabbi Daniel Caplan. A Rabbi who lives in Eretz Yisroel but has a heavy Midwestern twang to his English. Looks like a shtikkel Brisker, if you ask me. Anyway, I recently got an email where he sent me a link to a YouTube clip where he blasted the State of Israel and its war on Torah Jewry, or something to that effect. ["The state of israel's war against hashem"] he called it. I usually don't respond to the emails - I'll watch/listen to the clips if I have the time, but most of the time I don't respond to the e-mail. By the way Yosh9c was the one who sent me the piece about the Erlau'er Rov and the T'cheyles. I must've been in a mood, so I asked Yosh9c if Rabbi Caplan takes any money from the Israeli Government. To which he responded: "Even the satmar rebbe זצ'ל allowed to take money from the medina (individuals, not מוסדות) Rav Caplan used to take child support money." That was the end of that. Or at least that's what I though. Until today, almost 4 weeks later. When this arrives in my email inbox. I have listened toonly about 20 seconds of this clip, so I DO NOT KNOW what Rabbi Caplan says about me here. The post heading is what his subject line was in his e-mail. I imagine that either YoshcC or Rabbi Caplan, or both, are commenters on the blog, at least when it comes to the hot topic of Zionism and the SOI.

Listen: (part 4 is really part 2)

Is the שיטה הקדושה פון ויואל משה running out out of steam and not connecting to young people anymore?

See Here

There was some talk about it a few weeks ago, where some young people were interviewed anonymously in some publication. Obviously those that were interviewed are likely not the guys you want to use as your "proof." They're not on the Satmar path at all. So the fact that they like the Land of Israel is not proof that the Shittah is bankrupt. But we're not talking about the guys in that interview. We're talking about young people, in their 20s, 30s and 40s, who send their kids to Satmar mosdos, who daven in Satmar shuls, and who may even spend all the דערהויבענע מאמענטן of the year in Satmar. Does the shittah speak to them? More and more we see that it doesn't, and for a very simple reason. It's tough to raise a generation on a basis that is the antithesis of what a Jew believes and yearns for. Eretz Yisroel is in the heart of every Jew. He yearns to go there, whether he feels it or not. It's part of our past, present and future. Some choose not to see any of the wrongs going on there, because of the love, and I dare say, some choose to see EVERYTHING as wrong. Maybe because they love it so much, and it's hard to see a beloved country, G-d's country, act that way. Young people, however, they're in need of love, to love and be loved. They can't live the way their parents and grandparents did. This is true with regards to most things in life, the way they raise their families, and even the way they see Eretz Yisroel. They need to love. The Shittah was good for the old generation, it doesn't seem to be working with the younger ones. Even if we do see bochurim marching and wearing sackcloth, and even if we see 13 year old kids saying דאון וויט איזראעל.

חרדים ה"מבטלים" הג' שבועות

Read it here

In the interest of full disclosure I will say that the author is one Reb Yitzchok Brand, a Rov who goes up to har haBayis, as we see from the picture below, center. I do not condone what he does, nor is this an approbation of the above pamphlet. The topic has been getting lots of publicity lately, with Daf Yomi just passing the end of Kesubos, where the topic is discussed. Many maggidei shiur will stop and discuss the whole topic, VaYoel Moshe and all. All of them do it with the greatest respect for the author, despite disagreeing.

What do Lutvakkes and Yekkes know about Yiddishkeit anyway!

A description of the 1922 conference in Csop, headed by the Munkatcher Rov, upon his return to Munkatch from Poland. The Rabbonim were told about the terrible plan of the Agudah, founded by Lutvakken, Yekkes and Italians whose idea of Yiddishkeit is foreign to us, the Orthodox of Marmures and Hungary. What is a flaw for us is not a flaw for them, and what they teach their children is not what we would teach ours. They are just like the Mizrachi. Their supposed differences and arguments are only to show the world that they are different, but they are really one and the same. They condone and encourage the building of the land, and they plan on splitting it with the Zionists. They're also taking the money meant for the kollelim, the charities of Reb Meir baal haNess, now that people will support them instead of the holy kollelim. And they're trying to bring "Gymnasiums" and
"Rabbiner Seminaren" into Poland, where all great Rabbonim of the past and present forbid it. The decision of that conference was to ban any and all association with the Agudah. Many chashuv'e Rabbonim, attended, including Rav Yonasan Steif, the Satmar Rov, then of Orshive, and Reb Mordche Leib Winkler of H'Mad.
Similar to what the Rebbes of Lubavitch said about the AI, actually, but not in as many words.

The Satmar Rov's visit to the Belzer Rov in 1955 - Belzer version

Must-read if you're into hock like this, and especially if until now only read the Satmar version of this visit. No words are minced. It seems like the Satmar Rov took it very personally, and was visibly quite upset that the BR and the Tchebiner Rov would not accept his view on the matter. Also going as far as to tell them that they'll yet see the err of their ways and will still accept his view as daas torah. There's also the story of the SR's droshoh where he attacked the BR, and subsequently most people who attended went to ask mechilah. I don't recall ever seeing the part about Reb Meilech Ahkenazi of Melbourne being chucked out of the room.

"?מי צריך את הבנין שלהם"

The Satmar Rebbe holds nothing back when meeting with the Zvehiller Rebbe, Reb Mordche, of Yerushalayim in 5723. The עגל הזהב was not ע"ז ממש, but ציונות is... You can tell that the SR is somewhat annoyed by the ZR's "בטלנות" when it comes to getting his finances in order. It'll take but a few minutes to read all the pages. Click on images to enlarge.

Judge rules 7 year old סאטמארע אינגל may not travel to Israel because he will be influenced by the "splendor of the State..."

This anti-Zionism stuff is pretty serious, aye? Of course divorced couples will use anything to further their cause and to spite the other party, but still. I just wish that Rabbi Chaskel Teitelbaum of Clymer Street would be a bit more truthful. I don't think that the Grand Rebbe opposed all travel to Israel, otherwise why would he travel there several times himself? And why would he then not tell all his followers to get up and leave!

2 גליונות - סאטמארי"ש

PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU'D LIKE FOR ME TO SEND YOU THESE OR ANY OTHER  PUBLICATIONS VIA E-MAIL.

Look how the Satmar Rov's יארצייט makes so much headlines and how many tributes and booklets and blog postings are published! Even his detractors can't help but write about him every year! Here are two tributes/articles (whatever) that were recently published that you may have missed, or maybe don't really care for.

The first one is דורות, the עדה החרדית weekly, which has a nice tribute. Typical, but still somewhat respectful of other streams. The Satmar Rov was the Rov in Yerushalayim מטעם העדה החרדית and  the Nosi of the Edah for over 30 years. His successors as Satmar Rabbonim inherited that title - the Nosi part - as well. It helps with the fundraising. See the whole article here.

The next kuntres published may seem like it was a Satmar publication, but it looks like it was printed by the NK extremists who want to make the Satmoyrim look bad by using the most extreme expressions of the SR on groups like the Agudah and their leaders. This is NOT the "kinder, gentler" Satmar Rov that you read about in Hertz Frankel's articles or in Mishpacha magazine. No siree. It's full of לה"ר, רכילות, מוצש"ר and just plain lies about many of the previous generation's greatest leaders and thinkers, many of them said in a moment of rage or anger, all of them never should be published. If you want a rosey, lovey-dovey picture of the SR then don't read it.

Read the whole booklet here at your own risk!

Mishpacha shows some flashes of greatness...

We had very high hopes for Mishpacha magazine when it first appeared on the newsstands, but we then realized that the masses still make up the majority, and they need to be catered to, not to mention that they get very nervous when any magazine tries to educate them in new ways... So, for the most part, save for an article here and there about Lubavitch or Rabbi Hershel Schachter, The Yeshivisher Oylem's two pet peeves, Mishpacha takes the road most traveled. And that's a good thing! I have young children who read it every week, may they live and be well, בלע"ה, and I need them to at least start off rock-solid! But this here article is good! It asks the questions about the city of מונקאטש that need to be asked, and gives honest answers, all the while giving good historical background to the famous film we've seen many times by now.

In case you have not, here's the You Tube Link to the film As well as a link that will be allowed by your filter...
