I too wonder why certain rebbes have their tefillin in middle of their foreheads.

Does it not have to be where the hair starts (or started) growing?

yankel said...

so we have a choice: either halacha from dina digemoro and on, or minhag belz (a town in eastern europe, famous for
its muddy swamps).
How to choose?

The answer is yes. maybe that's where his hair starts growing. you never know...

No but really, can someone please tell me where hes coming from? He is clearly not yoitzi the mitzvah as brought down in Halacha. I wanna hear a reliable source on where hes coming from.
Please don't tell me he relies on a Zohar, or something like that. if that's the case please give exact location and chapter.
Don't just spurt gobily gook

I think there is a halachic issue with the way they wear they're talis.
See begining of Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, Hilchos tzitzis.
It needs to ne over the shoulders.

he's coming from "deh tatte z"l hut azoi getohn"

It is beautiful how some people continue ancient traditions. It is an anchor in a confusing world, to be able to rely totally on grandparents and great-grandparents.
After following Torah, it is the second best method of living a life.

Common guys, mistome it just slipped, anyway it's reading the Toireh, davening is almost finished and he is on vacation, and for sure he knows the haloche! Dan lekaf zchus, isn't he a 'bit' tzadik?

Well if that's the case then as the gemarah says: Even if Elyahu Hanavi says to do something against the torah do listen to him.

but you agree that if there is a biur in that al pi torah, then its a pesak al pi torah,
Get the teshuvas that were written on this matter, and then open your mouth...

but isn't explicit mishnah berurah, good enough? I'll ask him in summer when he comes to pressburg. Let see, what he has to say.

Before anyone rushes to judge like yankel and his ilk, there are 2 other possibilities to consider. 1) That tefilin tends to slip during davening and hes not always aware, but made sure that it was above the hairline at the time of putting it on, and maybe before taking it off. 2) There is also a possibility that he once had a very low hairline when he was younger and therefore, it would be in the right place. I am not sure which of those 2 possibilities is the correct one. However, i dont believe that there exists any such minhag in belz or skver or any other place, to deliberately place the tefilin that low.

You also seem to forget that larger teffilin can be lower than normal and still be covering the spot on the hair line to still be yotze.

When I was in England as a teenage Bochur, one of my Rebbeim showed me a letter which the Lubavitcher Rebbe sent him as a response to a question which he had asked the Rebbe. He told the Rebbe that while Davening with the Rebbe's Minyan he had noticed that the Rebbe's Tefillin what seemed lower than the hairline. It has been about 40 years since I saw it butas far as I remember the Gist of the Rebbe's response was that of astonishment how could he suspect a Yid Shomer Torah Umitzvos of other than doing what it says in Shulchan Oruch.(I remember the Rebbe bringing the Mar'ei Mokoim of the Shulchan Oruch.

When I was a bochur in England I remember being told that Rv Dubov (of Manchester) was from Yekatarinoslav and he remembered the Rebbe (that is the Lubavitcher, not the Skverer) having a low hairline, which is why he wore his tefillin low.
I was surprised at this whole thread. You know what they say about people who live in glass houses...

Did the letter vanish?
can we google it?
Yankel
whats your problem exactly?
I dont get it?
What's the analogy to the glass house?

The Lubavitcher Tennessee sent this letter to a private person who in turn showed it to me. It is not something that he wanted to share publicly, which incidentally is the reason that I never divulged the name to anyone at all. No you cannot "Google" it.
